Where can you get a great leakproof mask and snorkel for swimming laps?
If you intend to do the crawl stroke, I find the mask to have too much water resistance to swim forward AND turn the head to breathe. You will find the head will just not turn.
If you do not intend to turn the head (and use the snorkel instead), the mask may still have more forward resistance than you would like, tending to feel like someone is pushing the mask downward toward your chin. I would recommend goggles with or without a snorkel. It is possible to use goggles with a snorkel.
How do you clear your snorkel while scuba diving?
When you get to the suface with your head down take a breath off your regulator the take it out of your mouth. Put the snorkel mouth piece in your mouth and blow really hard.
Why is it not possible to breath through a snorkel from a depth greater than a meter?
The lungs and related chest muscles are not as powerful as you may think. Once you get them into a only a couple feet (half-meter) of water they are not strong enough to fight against the water pressure. If you were to experiment breathing through a hose in a swimming pool you would soon find that the lungs were straining even at shallow depths.
Even if standing upright underwater, with the top of your head level with the top of the water, you would not be able to breathe. So those commando movies with people hiding underwater breathing through straws - they are lying flat in the shallows, not standing upright!
Scuba tanks not only deliver air to your lungs, but pressurized air (more pressure the deeper you go), to get the lungs to work against the water pressure.

When you go snorkeling on top of the reef can you see sharks and stingrays and jellyfish?
Sharks like to hang out in water several meters deep, so if the top of the reef is at least 5 meters deep, you may see smaller ones cruising around. Stingrays tend to like sand so they can hide, but can be seen cruising over the top of the reef. Jellies for sure, unfortunately, but they can be seasonal.
How old do you need to be to snorkel?
There's not really an age. You can be any age unless you go snorkeling somewhere that has a required age.

How do you convert shoe sizes to scuba flipper sizes?
You can convert shoe sizes to scuba flipper sizes by choosing fins that are full finned or encase the entire foot. These are sized exactly like shoes are sized. Open fins, or the type with the strap that goes around the back of your foot, are sized just one size larger than your normal shoe size.

What can you do to keep your snorkel mask from leaking?
You can make your mask tighter but not too much because that can cause more leaking. To check if your mask is properly fitted, you should put the mask to your face, without putting the strap over your head, and breathe in through your nose. If the mask sticks, it is a good fit, if it falls off, you may need to get a different mask. You should also check if your hair is getting in the seal, if so make sure to take the hair from the seal.
How many people use life-jackets snorkel?
It is very common for people who are not confident swimmers to use a life jacket while snorkeling. In many tour boats, life jackets are given to everyone. In shallow water that, in an emergency, you could stand up in, they are not necessary. (Though there could be a lot of good snorkeling at that depth.)
Are there any dive sites in California?
There's really a wealth of spots to hit in California...
On the northern end there's Mendocino and Monterery, which have really awesome kelp forests.
In the south there's Catalina Island (Casino Point Park) which is probably the most popular shore dive in California. The Channel Islands are great because of the sea lions, and San Diego is famous for all its wrecks--Wreck Alley's biggest hit is the Yukon, a Canadian 366 foot ship that's down 100 feet.
Happy diving!
If you meant what are snorkels and what are they used for the answers are a snorkel is something that goes over your mouth and its used so that when you go under water you can still breath.
Is it possible to get bumps from coral and plankton from snorkeling?
well i wouldn't know what kind of bums you're talking about but i do know that you get 'bumped' alot by all the stuff down there.
Stings? If the bumps sting, then yes, you got a reaction to the many defensive and offensive chemicals that coral uses, which is why you don't want to bump up against them. Best way to keep your hands and arms out of danger is to keep your hands clasped behind your back and just use your filppers to get around.Stinging bumps from just swimming in the water tend to me less from plankton and more from jellies or broken up remains of jellies.
During a forest fire, a fire-fighting plane had scooped up some water from the lake to drop on the fire. The plane had accidentally picked up the unfortunate swimmer.
