How many batters in slowpitch softball?
Depends on your league. Generally at least 10 are allowed, 1 for each defensive position (4 outfielders in slowpitch softball). Some leagues allow 1 or 2 extra batters that function similar to a designated hitter but they do not hit for a defensive player, they are just an extra hitter in the lineup. They are usually allowed so that more people can play. One is allowed in open or unisex leagues and two are allowed in coed leagues so that the number of men and women are equal.
What are differences between softball and volleyball?
You don't use bats in volleyball, and you don't use nets in softball. Teams are different sizes. Balls are different sizes. Scoring system is that. Volleyball courts are very different from softball fields in size and composition.
Other than that they are practically the same game.
How many points to win a game of softball?
A home run is worth one point plus the number of runners on base. If there are no runners on base, it is just one point. If the bases are loaded, it is four points and is called a "grand slam".
ERA is Earned Run Average. An earned run is a run that is scored by a batter that reached base while a pitcher was on the mound, so long as the batter did not reach base on an error. Example A: If Pitcher A gives up a a single, then a home run, Pitcher A acquired 2 earned runs. Example B: If Pitcher B gives up a ground ball to the second basemen who mishandles the ball allowing the runner to reach first, and then Pitcher A gives up a home run, only 1 earned run is acquired. Example C: Pitcher C gives up a single and then is is yanked from the game. Pitcher D comes in for relief and gives up a home run. Pitcher C acquires 1 earned run for the runner on first, and Pitcher D acquires an earned run for the batter that hit the home run. Earned Run Average is calculated by determining how many earned runs a pitcher averages over nine innings. Each full inning is counted as one. If a starting pitcher is pulled from the mound with one out in the seventh inning, he pitched 6 full innings plus one third of an inning = 6 1/3 innings (this is written 6.1 innings). Lets say he gave up 4 earned runs this outing: Take 4 earned runs and divide by 6 1/3 innings and multiply by 9 innings in a game = an ERA of 5.68. Over the course of a season the numbers will get larger. In 2002, Greg Maddux gave up 58 earned runs while pitching 199.1 innings. Take 58 earned runs and divide by 199 1/3 and then multiply by 9 innings in a game = 2.62 ERA.
Can a softball pitcher throw overhand?
There is nothing I have found in the MLB rules that would prohibit a pitcher from a pitching motion similar to that of a softball pitcher. Actually, the underhanded motion was the rule when Alexander Cartwright came up with the rules of baseball in 1845. I have included a link, named 'MLB Rule 8', to the MLB rules concerning the pitcher on this page.
How long is a summer travel softball season?
Most teams practice all during the school year, many coaches have requirements for summer breaks as well. There are colleges that have indoor facilities and practice before snow leaves the ground, but some are restricted to after the spring thaw, the one I am familiar with actually shoveled snow off the field so they could practice.
Once you are a signed player, practice is pretty much every day, rain or shine, 6 days a week, 4 hours or more a day.
NCAA and NAIA have set rules regarding organized practices. There are slight differences between the 2 but the basics are the teams are allowed 4 weeks of practice in the fall and start back in late January continuing through the season.

TERMS:
If the batter attempts to hit the ball but the pitch hits her does she get the base?
Yes. MLB Rule 6.08(b) makes no distinction as to whether the ball does or does not hit the ground prior to hitting the batter. MLB Rule 6.08(b) is below:
" He is touched by a pitched ball which he is not attempting to hit unless (1) The ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, or (2) The batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball;
If the ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a strike, whether or not the batter tries to avoid the ball. If the ball is outside the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a ball if he makes no attempt to avoid being touched.
APPROVED RULING: When the batter is touched by a pitched ball which does not entitle him to first base, the ball is dead and no runner may advance. "
You should know that every sport has its risks. Players are often hit with the ball, causing bruises. Broken noses and other bones have also occurred. Overall, softball is a very fun sport and fear of injury should not stop anyone from playing. As long as proper safety procedures are followed, such as wearing a helmet while batting and a face mask while pitching, injuries should not be too serious.
Is softball pitching faster than baseball?
its pretty much the same except that the ball is comming at you 10xs faster and you REALLY have to watch the ball It's pretty self-explanatory. In fast-pitch, the ball comes at you faster. In slow-pitch, the ball is coming at you slower.
If a ball bounces off the dirt and into the strike zone is it considered a strike or a ball?
A called strike cannot hit the ground and then go thru the strike zone. Baseball rule section 2.00 Definitions of Terms: A ball is a pitch which does not enter the strike zone in flight and is not struck at by the batter. If the pitch touches the ground and bounces through the strike zone it is a "ball". If such a pitch touches the batter, he shall be awarded first base. If the batter swings at such a pitch after two strikes, the ball cannot be caught, for the purposes of rule 6.05 (c) and 6.09 (b). If the batter hits such a pitch, the ensuing action shall be the same as if he hit the ball in flight.
to say "I like softball in spanish" use the word for "I" which is "yo" the verb "to like" which is "gustar" in the "I" form (gusto) and the spanish word for "softball" which would be "softball."
That's right, as far a I know there is no special word for "softball" so you input the English term. It's kind of like "CD" which is pronounced in spanish the same way we speak it in English. So to answer your question in entirety...
"Yo gusto softball." or just plain "Gusto softball"
that's not right because sure if you translated it literally it would be fine but as a native speaker this just sounds like a retard. it would either be
"A mi me gusta el softbol" or "me gusta softbol"
What is the number of feet from first base to second base?
88 feet, the same as from home to first.
AnswerThis is a trick question. The distance from point to point is exactly 90 feet, but each bag is 1 foot wide, which means that the distance between them is, in fact, 88 feet. Each bag is a 15 inch by 15 inch square. First base is entirely inside the infield but second base is centered on the 90 foot point. So 90 feet minus 15 inches minus 7.5 inches = 90 feet minus 22.5 inches or 88 feet 1.5 inches.
Is it called a catcher or back catcher?
The full term is Catcher. In Canada it is referred to as Back Catcher.
Both are not correct. If it it must be part of your vernacular, then so be it, but both are not correct. If there is a "Back Catcher" then where is the "Front Catcher."
In Canada the term "hardball" is used too. Yes, a Baseball is hard, but the ball used in the game is a 'Baseball.'
I am a Canadian and am familiar with the term " back catcher." But it was always used in relation to kid's games of softball -- never baseball. "Hardball " is slang and has been used for generations in Canada to distinguish between thosewho play the game using the harder sphere as opposed to the game employing the lighter sphere that doesn't hurt so much when it hits you.

A base hit is a statistic credited to a batter when such batter reaches base safely, as set forth in this Rule 10.05.
(a) The official scorer shall credit a batter with a base hit when:
(6) a fielder unsuccessfully attempts to put out a preceding runner and, in the official scorer's judgment, the batter-runner would not have been put out at first base by ordinary effort.
(b)The official scorer shall not credit a base hit when a:
(4) fielder fails in an attempt to put out a preceding runner and, in the scorer's judgment, the batter-runner could have been put out at first base;
It all depends on what the official scorer thinks the possibility of a put out at 1st is. If they think the batter would have been out if they went directly to first then the batter doesnt get credit for a hit, if the score keeper feels he would have been safe, then it is a hit.
**If any lead runner is thrown out, then it is no hit, and scored as a fielder's choice
it is scored a wp the batter doesn't get RBI

Fastest way to slide in softball?
When you slide you slide into second third or home never slide into first. you don't have to slide when it is a forced out either. To slide you run at full speed if you slow down you could injure your self and wont go far on the slide. you should slide about 7 feet from the base. When you start to slide don't hesitate . go legs first.
here are some things to remember when sliding
1st- stick your left leg out and pretend to be reaching for the base with it
2nd- fold your right leg at the knee under you left
3rd- keep your body down (the point of a slide is to dodge the ball)
4th- do all of this before you hit the ground
5th-dont think just do it
6th- it may hurt even if you do it right but it will hurt more if you do it wrong
here are tips for practicing it
1-get sweat pants on (they cushion you if you mess up)
2-go outside on the grass (just to get used to it )
3-wet the grass (that way you slide over it )
4-practice (if you practice it enough you wont have to think in a real game)
