The quetzal is the currency used throughout Guatemala. This currency was created by President Jose Maria Orellana in 1925. In earlier years the quetzal was known as the Guatemalan Peso.

I have a 1969 dime from the Bahamas found out it is a fabulous find on rarity but is only worth face value.

It is 90.3% silver and has .7859 troy ounces of silver.

However, 1910-1914 Mexican pesos are collector coins with values that exceed bullion prices for all but the most worn examples. While they have less than $20 worth of silver in them, even worn coins can be worth $50 on eBay and values jump into the hundreds of dollars for better grade coins.

What is the size of the coin? If it appears to be silver dollar sized it may be a Spanish-Mexican 8 Reales. That design features king Ferdinand VI (1746-59). The M and F are the Mexico City mint's assayers' initials. The number to the right of the shield is the denomination. The Mexico City mintmark is an M with a small o over it. It should weigh 27.067 grams and would contain .7980 of an ounce of silver. Collector value depends on date, number minted and condition of a coin, including amount of wear, any dents, scratches or cleaning. This 8 Reales may be worth about $25 with heavy wear to maybe $100 with moderate wear to possibly $200 with light wear. You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info. You might find similar pieces on Ebay.com for comparison. I assume you mean a 5 dollar piece. It should have a picture of Miss Liberty on one side, and eagle on the other, and be about the diameter of a nickel but heavier. The value of many gold coins is now determined as much by their metal content as their numismatic worth. Circulated 1901 $5 pieces retail from about $150 if worn, up to $200+ in Extremely Fine condition (effecitvely no detectable wear). A 1901 Half Eagle 5$ gold piece (no mint mark or S mint mark) in very fine condition is worth $140.00, in uncirculated condition is worth $200.00, Proof is worth $8,500.00. There is also some 1901S half eagles that were struck with the 1 over 0, and these are worth more.

If you look on the reverse(back) of the coin, you will see where it reads .5 decimos fine, which stands for 50% silver content. These coins are fairly common, and unless it is a slabbed, graded , mint state specimen, It will only have a value of spot silver multiplied by the coins silver content which is about 12.5 grams, or roughly 0.41 troy ounces. At todays spot prices, somewhere from 10-12 bucks U.S.

A 1988 U.S. Mint uncirculated set can be purchased on eBay for a price ranging anywhere from $10 to $20, depending on how many people bid against you, and whether any of those people really want it badly.

It's not a Mint product. Someone took a normal half dollar and stamped JFK's birth and death dates onto it.

Normally an alteration like this would reduce the coin's value, but the good news is that Kennedy halves are common enough in circulated condition that they're only worth their metal value (1964-70) or face value of 50 cents (1971-present)
