Are soybeans good for dogs?

Dogs cannot digest them. Canine digestion lacks an amino acid necessary to digest soybeans. Because tofu and soybean oil are already processed, they can be tolerated by many dogs. However many low-end pet foods contain soybeans, which can trigger bloat, an often fatal digestive reaction.

Does tofu melt?

Assume that 'melt' here is in the same sense that cheese melt, no, Tofu does not melt. This is because cheese contain casein which cause the soft, stringly sticky character of melted cheese and Tofu does not.

This may also be because of the heat damage caused in the tofu making process. Cheese made from cooked milk ( like Ricotta cheese) are crumbly and will not melt just like Tofu which is made from cooked soy.

The closest thing you can get to a 'melted' tofu is finely mashed tofu with nutrition yeast.

Who was the ex-slave turned chemist who discovered new uses for peanuts and soybeans?

This was George Washington Carver. He promoted the use of alternative crops to address the problem of depletion of soil nutrients caused by repeated plantings of cotton. Peanuts and soybeans are legumes and they have root nodules which contain nitrogen fixing bacteria. Many of his ideas were developed to encourage people in the use of these other crops.

How fast do soy bean grow?

Soybean in the U.S. is divided into 10 maturity groups that correspond to the 10 maturity zones or bands that cover all of the U.S. territory.

Each group will grow more or less quickly according to the length of the day light and the date of plantation. The main difference is mostly in the duration between the time of plantation and pollination. The time between pollination and harvest is usually about the same.

It takes between 3 and 5 months in total between plantation and harvest.

Is soybean a fruit or a vegetable?

The soybean (U.S.) or soya bean (UK) (Glycine max) is a species of legume native to East Asia, widely grown for its edible bean which has numerous uses. Like all beans, soybean is a pulse, hence a vegetable. The FAO classifies it as an oilseed because of its 20% oil content, but the protein content is even higher, so that classification looks wrong.

In any case, soybean is unique among beans for this double usage, oil and protein.
They are a vegetable that looks like fat pea pods.

What are some disadvantages of soybean plantations?

•Trashing Brazil's rainforest so the cultivation of soya is possible is one the major disadvantages of this cultivation. This soybeans are mainly exported as feed for European animal farms.

•Force people to move to other places. For example Paraguay which had many families, birds and trees and is now empty due to the air filled with toxic from pesticides to protect soy crops.

•Farmers from these regions had to move out as toxic products caused nausea and headaches on their families thus the chickens died, cows aborted their calves and only few trees are left. The neighborhood they used to lived in resumed itself to soybeans all around.

•Farmers say that if you don't sell your house to soy companies they threaten to kill them, they have to choose between move or die. A neighborhood which housed 1000 farmers has now 30 families who resist the soy plantation.

•80% of greenhouse gases from Brazil come from deforestation of the Amazon which become croplands and one of the major crops produced in Brazil is soybean.

•The destruction of the Amazon by soybean planters is sometimes performed illegally.

Does soy milk help your breasts grow?

Answer

While soy milk, like all soy products, contains phytoestrogens, which are weak estrogen-like compounds, there hasn't been evidence to suggest that modest to high consumption of soy products encourages breast growth. It's possible that consumption of highly concentrated phytoestrogens might cause breast growth just as estrogen-containing birth control pills do, but normal soy consumption would not. If it did, imagine how vegetarian males would look! You'd need warning labels and everything on the milk if it actually promoted breast growth.

Is soy milk better than cow milk?

It depends on who you ask. Many people who have never tried soy milk think it is gross just by the sound of it. Personally, I think soy milk is great. Either way, everyone will have their preferences. But for being a vegan, soy milk is really good to get that really-similar-to-milk taste. And many brands come in different flavors, like chocolate and strawberry soy milk, too. (Personally, I like Silk soy milk the best, also because it's easy to get at most supermarkets!)
== == == == Soy milk isn't better for you in any particular way, it is simply an alternative to milk. Soy milk is nutritionally close to cow's milk, though most soya milk commercially available today is enriched with added vitamins such as vitamin B12. It naturally has about the same amount of protein (but not the same proteins) as cow milk. Natural soy milk contains little digestible calcium as it is bound to the bean's pulp, which is insoluble in a human. To counter this, many manufacturers enrich their products with calcium carbonate available to human digestion. Unlike cow's milk it has little saturated fat and no cholesterol, which many consider to be a benefit. Cow milks calcium is also very difficult to digest in a human stomach and there is evidence to suggest that drinking to much cow milk can aggravate osteoporosis. Soya products contain sucrose as the basic disaccharide, which breaks down into glucose and fructose. Since soya doesn't contain galactose, a product of lactose breakdown, it can safely replace breast milk in children with Galactosemia. As a side point it can safely be said that soy milk does not taste identical to cows milk. In fact in can taste a bit strange when you first start drinking it, but, like most things that are new to you, your taste buds adapt and it becomes highly enjoyable and palatable. Many people who consume just soy milk find that milk is suddenly unpalatable. Controversially a lot of soy bean production causes massive deforestation in the rain forests. As most soy beans are used in the cattle industry (one the the main source of CO2) it can be argued that if cattle-for-food was stopped this deforestation problem would be removed. == == There are no proven studies to indicate that soy is healthier. Some people enjoy it. Even Starbucks serves soy products and they are delicious.

What is soy milk and how is it made?

Soy milk is the filtered juice extracted from soaked soybeans. Because of its high content in calcium, its appearance is white like cow milk. It can be used similarly to cow milk for many usages.

Soy milk is made by soaking soybeans, grinding them with water. The fluid which results after straining is called soy milk. You can make soy milk at home with basic kitchen tools or with a soy milk machine. Soy milk is most commonly found in aseptic cartons. Most of the soy milk available in the market is flavored and fortified with extra calcium or vitamins. The most popular flavors are vanilla and chocolate. Some producers add thickeners to their soy milk to give it a mouth feel of cow's milk. Traditionally, soy milk has a beany taste which is well accepted by the Chinese, but less by the Western palate. By using correct processing techniques, this beany taste can be reduced or eliminated. Recently, with the recognition of its health benefits and with its improved flavor and texture, soy milk has now a high and rising acceptance. Sometimes, use is made of protein isolates from soy bean which are mixed with water, oils, sugars, stabilizers to give it a milky appearance. This type of product should be described as soy drink and is not as wholesome as real soy milk.

ANSWER

How I make it is to soak soy beans overnight in a a lot of water.

In the morning, drain the water and wash the beans. Now comes the laborious part. With every one cup of soy beans, have about 1 1/2 - 2 cups of water. Blend them together. The beans and water have to be blended very well.

Have a strainer ready, with a large cheese cloth over it. Pour the blended soy beans onto the cheese cloth. Don't pour in too much, because you will need to bring the corners of the cloth together. Twist the ends so that the soy mixture won't spill out, and squeeze. All that should be left in the cheesecloth are the soy fibers.

Pour the squeezed-out "milk" into a large pot and simmer for about 25-30 minutes. Serve it hot or chill it in glass or plastic bottles.
