The North Stars never won a Stanley Cup, but made appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals in 1981 and 1991. The North Stars lost to the New York Islanders in 5 games in 1981 and the Pittsburgh Penguins in 6 games in 1991. In 1993, the franchise relocated to Texas and became the Dallas Stars. The Dallas Stars reached the Cup Finals in 1999 and 2000, winning the championship in 1999 in 6 games over the Buffalo Sabres. The New Jersey Devils defeated Dallas in 6 games to capture the 2000 Stanley Cup.

As of August, 2014 there are 12 current NHL teams have never won the Stanley Cup. Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, Winnipeg Jets, Nashville Predators, San Jose Sharks and Phoenix Coyotes have never made it to the Stanley Cup Final. St. Louis Blues, Buffalo Sabres, Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators, Washington Capitals and Vancouver Canucks have made it to the Final, but never won.

Detroit was granted an expansion franchise in 1926. In the same year, Frank and Lester Patrick, the owners of the Western Hockey League (yes, the owned the WHOLE LEAGUE) folded their operation and agreed to sell their players to the NHL. The new Detroit team purchased the players of the WHL Victoria Cougars and adopted their nickname in honor of the folded franchise. Pre-NHL, the most goals scored in a single Stanley Cup playoff game by a single player is 14, scored by Frank McGee in a 1905 playoff game pitting his team, Ottawa Senators, against the Dawson City Nuggets. That game also holds the Pre-NHL record for most goals in a single game for a team, 23.

It should also be noted that Frank was blind in one eye when he played for Ottawa, as he lost vision in that eye in an amateur hockey game in 1900.

In 2004, when they made it to the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals but lost. Since then, the Toronto Maple Leafs haven't made it to the play-offs.

The very first Stanley Cup winner was the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association. Montreal AAA for short. They were also known as the Montreal Hockey Club. They won in 1893. They were awarded the Cup as they were the AHAC champions. In 1894, they beat the Ottawa HC.

Although Billy Burch of the New York Americans was raised in Toronto, he was born in Yonkers, New York. He became the second player to ever win the Lady Byng in 1927. Frank Nighbor of the Ottawa Senators won the trophy when it was first awarded in 1925, as well as in 1926. Burch also played for the Hamilton Tigers, Boston Bruins, and Chicago Blackhawks during a career that spanned 11 seasons. Upon retiring in 1933, Burch was the last remaining player in the NHL to have played for the Tigers.

1994, the captain was mark messier. the winning goal of game 7 against vancouver in the finals was credited to messier. in the end the rangers won the stanely cup ending their 54 year drought and havent had to answer to islander fans since. Screw you islander fans.
