How do steroids affect breathing?

Slightly if you need them because of Muscle errosion then it is Unlikely

But if Your doing it Because of Athletic improvement then I HIGHLY recommend you do not take them Because what steroids do is they lower your Heart rate. If Running 5 km it is Hard because your heart rate is up and you can't push yourself to go faster because you are puffed and you breath a lot and is tired.

But if take steroids your heart rate lowers you can go a lot easier and you are not puffed

But when you are asleep your body needs less Oxygen to breathe now less oxygen=lower heart rate and your are already on steroids and your heart is already too low your heart will stop and you will die.

So yes Breathing may effect your breathing

Withdrawal Prednisone how long does it last?

I stopped taking Prednisone exactly one week ago and am still experiencing swelling and puffiness, especially around my face and my stomach. I was perscribed Prednisone for my Crohn's disease, and have been tapering, becoming sick again, and then going back up to at least a 20 mg. daily dosage for the past 9 months. After trying both Imuran and Methotrexate, I finally felt better after taking Remicade, a drug taken through infusion therapy. Immediately after my first injection, I finally began to taper off the 20 mg. Prednisone I had been taking in just four weeks. Although I have been off Prednisone, I am still experiencing the side effects, especially the weight gain and the "moon face", and have heard from my doctor that it can take more than 12 weeks for the drug to be completely eliminated from your body. Fortunately, I have noticed a slight decrease in my side effects over the past week, and have been told that the side effects slowly disappear over a period of time that can be more than 3 months, depending on the individual. So, don't worry. I freaked out because I thought my side effects should have been gone by now, and then learned that it can take longer than you might expect, but they will go away eventually! Also, if you have IBD/Crohn's, and maintanance medicines such as azathioprine/Imuran or methotrexate have not been working for you, I recommend Remicade or Humera! I felt better instantly and my symptoms disappeared, allowing me to taper from Prednisone immediately! Although Remicade can have rare but serious side effects, I have not noticed any in my daily life. If you are sick and have been trying to get better with medicines that haven't worked, I think that Remicade is absolutely worth trying! Good luck, and I hope you feel better!

Why are steroid hormones used to treat cancer?

There are many reasons to do so, and many types of steroids that all have different results, but one that is common is that chemotherapy targets fast growing cells like cancer. Some normal cells, however, also grow fast such as the lining of the stomach. One reason for the nausea of chemotherapy is that the lining of a patient's stomach is killed and slough's off, allowing the stomach to be irritated by normal acids. Sometimes steroids are used to help this lining replace itself faster. Some steroids are also given just prior to chemotherapy to help reduce the nausea from the treatment drugs themselves.

Short-term side-effects of prednisone, include high blood glucose levels, especially in patients that already have diabetes mellitus or are on other medications that increase blood glucose (such as tacrolimus), and mineralocorticoid effects such as fluid retention (although it is worth noting, however, that the mineralocorticoid effects of prednisone are very minor; this is why it is not used in the management of adrenal insufficiency unless a more potent mineralocorticoid is administered concomitantly). Additional short-term side-effects include insomnia, euphoria, and, rarely, mania. Long-term side-effects include Cushing's syndrome, weight gain, osteoporosis, glaucoma, type II diabetes mellitus, and depression upon withdrawal.

How are anabolic steroids used?

Contrary to popular belief, Anabolic steroids are most commonly used by "gym rats" for aesthetic purposes, as they increase strength, muscle size and mass. Only a small percentage of users are athletes who use them for their performance enhancing properties.

Anabolic steroids come in a number of types and forms. The two most common types are oral and injectable. Oral steroids usually come in a capsule, pill or liquid form and are swallowed; the main problem with orals is that they can cause extensive liver damage among other possible side effects. Injectable steroids are the most common form; they are usually oil based and are injected directly into a muscle (usually the glutes) with a syringe and needle. Unlike orals, they do not cause liver damage but there are still some possible side effects.

What are Prednisone side effects?

there are many possible side effects of prednisolone as it is a corticosteroid.

in the short term it can cause increase in thirst and urination, increased appetite, increased panting.

in the longer term if taken in longer courses it can cause weight gain, thinning of the skin, pot belly, diabetes mellitus and iatrogenic cushings syndrome (cushings syndrome caused by excessive oral administration of prednisolone- cushings syndrome has a combination of the above symptoms) these are some of the more common side effects but there are others occasionally encountered.

if your dog has been started on prednisolone by your vet i am sure it is for a very good reason- if it is just a short course then the side effects will only be transitory and will subside when your dog stops taking the pills. if it is a medication for life please do not stop giving the tablets to your dog but discuss it with your vet. prednisolone is sometimes a very useful drug despite it having side effects. REMEMBER all drugs will have some side effects. please talk to your vet if you are worried.
