Steve Irwin did so much to build Australia's reputation and image in a positive way around the world. In many ways he was the face of Australia and one of our best known exports, In addition to being a great export success, Steve Irwin has invested in Australia's natural assets; particularly our wildlife.

Steve's commitment to the environment has been economic as well as educational. In 2004 Steve invested $$O million dollars in the Australia Zoo and was awarded the Accor Tourism Outstanding Achievement Award at the Australian Export Awards in the same year. Steve's commitment to eco-tourism and wildlife preservation makes him one of Australia's famous tourism exporters. Australia Zoo is also one of our most successful eco-tourism companies. Steve Irwin contribution to Australia's unique natural environment and the preservation of wildlife will be remembered by Australia and the world for many years to come.

Steve Irwin, aka the Crocodile Hunter, died on 4 September 2006 after being impaled through the chest by a stingray spine while snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia.

During his life, Steve shared his great passion for animal life and conservation with the world. He saw this as the most important work in his life.

His other interests included martial arts (he trained in Gaidojutsu), cricket, Australian Rules football, Rugby League (he played for Caloundra Sharks as a teenager), and he was known to get in some surfing when he could. I remember one local story of Steve out surfing. There was supposedly a shark in the water, and while everyone else was scrambling to get out of the water, Steve stuck his head under the water wanting to see the shark. He was a larikin and a much missed Australian icon.

Australia Zoo, the flora and fauna park founded by Steve, did have a resident giant Galapagos land tortoise who was named Harriet. Harriet was believed to have been born around about 1830 and died on 23 June 2006.

It has been reported that Harriet was first collected by Charles Darwin. There have been letters found, written by Charles Darwin in 1860, in which he refers to tortoises from a previous expedition in 1835, one of which would have been Harriet. She arrived in Australia with John Wickham (a friend of Charles Darwin's) in 1842 and lived at Newstead House in Brisbane, Queensland until she was donated to the Botanic Gardens in Brisbane in 1960. A worker at the Botanic Gardens named her Harry, mistakenly believing the tortoise to be male. "Harry" was moved on to Fleay's Fauna Sanctuary on the Gold Coast, Queensland, where she was determined to be female and her name was changed to Harriet. Harriet was moved to Australia Zoo at the Sunshine Coast, Queensland in 1987. She became one of Australia Zoo's iconic animals and celebrated her 175th birthday with much celebration and thousands of visitors and vip's in 2005. Birthday cards and gifts were sent to her from all over the world. Unfortunately Harriet became ill in 2006 and died from heart failure.

He lived with his mother and he wreslted his first crocodile at age 9. Also his mom said that if she couldn't see him he was either in a tree or on the roof.

Bob Irwin is Steve's dad, and the original owner of Australia Zoo when it was smaller and had a different name. Steve got his love of wildlife from his father.

Sadly, Steve predeceased his father when he died from a stingray attack on 4 September 2006.

At this time, Bob Irwin is still alive and is in his 70's.

he was diving, filming a documentary off Australia's northern coast when a stingray appeared and stung him in the heart. well, actually, the barb supposedly went through his heart. there was a woman who was in a speedboat, incidentially, lately that got whacked in the face by a huge spotted eagle ray. she died on impact- i mean, the thing was 75 pounds! (sad face)

Steve Irwin is a well known hero to the world. He helped many sick and distraught animals in need of care and help. He risked his life everyday in order to help the animals and he never harmed an animal. He raised heaps of money and he started from scratch,with his family by his side he did what he to do and much much more. Steve Irwin had taught many people so much including his family and the rest of the world. RIP Steve

Lyn Irwin died in a single automobile accident in 2000.

They met together in 1992, when Steve Irwin was 30 years old.

Well, honey, that's like asking if a koala is cuter than a kangaroo. Steve Irwin was a wildlife warrior who wrestled crocs like nobody's business, while Crocodile Dundee was just a character in a movie. So, if you're looking for cool points, I'd say Steve Irwin wins hands down. But hey, that's just my two cents!

Steve Irwin is known as The Crocodile Hunter because his career involved producing documentary on wildlife animals, including crocodiles. However, Steve died in a freak accident with a stingray while filming a documentary called Ocean's Deadliest in 2006. Many people would say that he was a hero.
