How do you get your son to take his Strattera medicine without throwing it up?

You can't, I've tried to do everything for it. In my opinion you should let your kid off meds and save you and your son a lot of trouble, I'm a extremley under-weight fourteen-year-old girl and you can thank the ADD meds for it, my parents make me take it, so if you don't want to see the poor kid sick I suggest you take him off meds. Get him into individual classes (If he's in school) and that can help, just don'tput him through the pain and misery, seriously.

Can Strattera cause heart murmurs and chest pain?

My son has been on Stattera for a few years, and for a while he had bad chest pains. We went to the hospital emergency room one night, but left because the pain had subsited. Our doctor suggested that we try treating him for heart burn, since all the test came backk ok. We even went to a heart doctor. We have been treating him with over-the-counter heartburn medicine, and when the pains come, he drinks a sode and burps, and this helps. Good luck.

How quickly can you up your dosage on Strattera?

Upping your dosage on any medication is your doctor's call, not yours. When you are initially diagnosed there will be a period when dosage will need to be adjusted. Most typical time frame is 30 - 60 days.

Why am I paranoid I am taking Prozac and Strattera?

If taking these two medications makes you paranoid, then you need to communicate that to your doctor so an alternate solution can be reached.

You should be open with your doctor about side effects you are having. It could simply be that the meds are new and your body is getting used to them. If it persists after a month or two, you should see your doctor again. It could just be that your dosage is too high.

What if your taking Strattera and after it wears off you want to commit suicide what should you do?

Speak to your doctor immediately about changing the dosage, the timing, or switching to a more effective medication. DO NOT WAIT! Different people react differently to different medications. What works for one may not work for another. There is one that is right for you, and you need to insist that your doctor work at finding it with you.

HOWEVER: Keep in mind that it sometimes takes weeks for a psych medication to become effective. If you are truly suicidal, talk to the doctor now. If you are exaggerating and have been taking Strattera for only a short time, it might be prudent to discuss it but to wait a bit before looking at a change.

Does Stratterra cause sexual problems or future sexual problems as the boys grow?

I have never seen any long-term data to suggest that any of the potential sexual side effects are long term. What people typically complain of sexually is a decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, or ejaculatory dysfunction. Again, these seem to go away once stopping the medication.

Hope this helps!

Can you snort methocarbmol?

Don't sniff this drug. It's as if sniffing Robaxin or Ultram. It's a muscle relaxer - and it's not even that potent. If you don't want to do more damage to your nose (to include HORRIBLE burning inside your nostrils) than I suggest not sniffing it.

Is anyone taking a stimulant and a nonstimulant together for ADHD if so what combos are you taking?

My daughter is 11 and she takes a combination of Metadate CD and Strattera. Last summer we tried her on Strattera alone, we liked the 24 hour effectiveness and it seemed to help with her impulsiveness and mood, but when school started back, she still couldn't focus enough to study and do her school work. She would tell me she was daydreaming in class, and the other kids talking bothered her when she was trying to read or listen to the instructor, so her doctor, who is a child psychiatrist suggested we try them together. As we increased the dosage of one, we lowered the dosage of the other until we were satisfied that she could concentrate in class during the day at the lowest possible stimulant level. Again this summer we have taken her off of the Metadate CD and when school starts back we will give her a couple of weeks and then decide if we need to add it back in. My hope is that as she gets older she can learn to control her distractability and focus better so she can stay off the the stimulant medication forever. It is certainly worth talking to your doctor about. Good luck.

What are the symptoms or effects of Focalin XR and Strattera take together on the human body?

Depending on the dosage of each, you will most likely see an increase in heart rate, dizziness when titrating/changing dosages, mild insomnia, and a loss in sexual performance for males (most females have shown an increase in libido with strattera). The focalin will also create a little bit of restlessness and anxiety. Do not forget that it is also a diuretic and combining it with strattera will make you a flatulent Freddy at times. Also look out for the expiration dates on both of those medications. Focalin is expensive for a lot of mom and pop pharmacies, so they may accidentally give you an expired batch (happened to me, twice). Also be sure to eat a diet high in protein (both meds are highly protein bound!)

Can you use adderall xr and Strattera together to treat ADHD?

It is an extremely horrible combination. I did the same 3 years ago because I wanted the effects of both. I ended up being a walking zombie I was so sedated. I lost 30 pounds and felt like I wasn't living my life at all and had suicidal thoughts....DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS. I am majoring in Psych for this reason... ADHD is commonly diagnosed because doctors don't have the "time" it takes to accurately figure out the real issue. I was improperly "drugged" with ADHD meds from 18 to 22. I went fromg gaining 40 pds to loosing 30 in 2 months, then hospitalized for anemia. Just to find out what I had been saying for years...no it has to be something else, I know my body better than anyone. I started researching and found out that I was a little manic depressive. I took this diagnosis to thde last psychiatrist (3) and we as a team discovered that in fact I was correct and finally diagnosed with mild to moderate bi-polar disorder. Do not trust in doctors, know your body. Until a child can speak and know how they are feeling please do not drug them up unnecessarily.

Can Strattera cause herpes outbreaks?

I've gone on and off of Strattera a few times now, and I've noticed that for the last two times I've gone back on, I get cold sores (herpes 1) outbreaks. There's no research that I can find about this, but I'm certain that it's the Strattera causing it!

Is slurred speech a side effect of Strattera?

Hi. It's funny that you mention that. I never had any issues with my speech, but I find on 20 mg. of Strattera per day I find myself stuttering and slurring my words on occassion.

What will happen if you are bipolar and you take Strattera?

Will Strattera increase a user's tics?

My son's tics were for the most part in remission when he started Strattera three months ago. But he just recently started a new tic, eye blinking, and it's terrible.

According to our neurologist, he preferred Straterra over the stimulents for ADD because it is NOT supposed to cause tics! Interesting!

I am a physician and in my research I have come across a possibility of SLIGHT worsening of tics. the one case I saw, was only transient, and everything evened out without problems

My 11 yo son has been dx ADHD since infancy-he was a preemie with sleep apnea and given caffeine to stimulate his system. Although preemie's have higher rates of ADD/ADHD in general, nobody has ever validated my theory that the caffeine had anything to do with his condition. We've been on Adderal combined w/ Strattera since the 4th grade. His focus improved, his self esteem improved and he became an A-B student. However, towards the end of the school year he was making these weird jerking movements with his arms or his neck. I mentioned it to the Dr. and he said that either of the meds may contribute slightly to the tics. We never medicate during the summer but still noticed the tics, but they were different ones. He would repeat a word every so often and make this weird laughing sound in the back of his throat. 5th grade was pretty uneventful. But I again noticed that once one tic stopped another one began. We had one of his friends over for dinner and he was joking about my son's "spasms". DJ laughed along with him it didn't seem to bother him but it broke my heart. I don't know if this was the right thing or not, but I began pointing them out occasionally and saying "let's see if we can work on these". Sometimes it appeared he could tone them down, but most times he was unaware of it. I began explaining that he would be starting junior high, at a new school where nobody knew him, and that middle schoolers were notoriously mean. My son the diplomat said,"oh well, this is me". Again we had another unmedicated summer but I believe the frequency of the tics increased. It is discouraging that the med holiday over summer break did not clear up the situation. He's now begun the 6th grade and they are more noticeable than ever. I was starting to think he might have Tourette's until I found this website and other similar ones. I agonized and struggled with the decision to medicate and now it appears that this wonderful intervention has created another problem! The meds were more for other people than for us-uneducated lazy teachers who don't have time nor desire to work with differently abled learners. Every year I look into receiving some additional services for him but he has never qualified for an IEP or 504 plan because his test scores are so high and he makes good grades. AAaargggh. And so far we're a month into the new school year and my A-B student who only got one C last year is failing 3 classes because there's so much work, different classrooms, multiple assignments and zillions of new distractions. He is very disorganized, in spite of the 2 drug combination. I refuse to increase/change his meds. Ritalin was horrible, he never ate, and Concerta turned him into a zombie. I approached the clinical team 3 weeks into the year and was told once again, "disorganization does not qualify a student for special services". The school's suggestion was that I work with him at home. Ha! We're failing now, maybe he can get some help. Excuse me, but dang it I'm mad.

If your son has a diag. of ADHD and regardless of his grades HE DOES qualify for services under the state's program (not federal special services) but something very similiar under section 504.

Does it matter what time of day the time release version of Straterra is taken?

My children take Straterra and their medicine helps them all day and into the next day. I give them their medicine at 8:30 am and there have been times that I forget to give them their medicine and I don't notice a behavior change until hours after the scheduled time has passed. Because of this I have had a hard time remembering to give them their medicine. It should work that good if given regulary every day. I have never heard of a time released version of straterra. I have heard of time released versions of Ritalin. Time released versions of Ritalin like Concerta and Metadate should last 9 to 12 hours. After a few months or so of taking the time released Ritalin meds my kids medicine would wear off by lunch time. They no longer take Ritalin based drugs.

I, too, have never heard of a time release version. But, my 12 year old son was taking his 40 mg. pill at 7:15 a.m. and things were going okay as far as attention span/hyperactivity. But, he was so very sleepy during the first 3 - 4 hours of the morning and was unable to fall asleep at night. Therefore, with his doctor's permission we changed his dosage time to 10:00 p.m.. Now he is able to sleep better and is NOT sleepy during school hours. However, we noted his hyperactivity level increases about 3:00p.m. and really escalates by 8:00 p.m.. We don't know if that is supposed to happen or if he needs a higher dosage. We plan on talking to his doctor about it at his next visit to discuss his ADHD.

What is non sterile compounding?

Sterile compounding involves numerous techniques to prevent pyrogens from entering medications. The importance of sterile compounding in intravenous, intraperitoneal, and intrathecal medical preparations arises from a need to prevent health issues like sepsis. For example, if an intravenous medication were to be prepared with bacteria in it, they could multiply in the bloodstream and cause sepsis.

Sterile compounding is usually done in a barrier isolater, laminar or horizontal flow hood, where the air inside the chamber is either isolated from outside air, or forms a curtain of clean air such that room air does not enter. In this way, bacteria in ambient air does not enter the preparations which are being created in the hood.

Sterile compounding is usually most common in a hospital pharmacy, whereas non sterile compounding is used in hospital and retail pharmacies. Instead of preparing sterile medications, such as those delivered intravenously, non sterile preparations are prepared in the open without isolation from the outside. While pharmacists and pharmacy technicians maintain hygienic conditions during preparation, the medication is exposed, during preparation, to bacteria in the surroundings. This is usually not a problem, however, because these medications will be taken orally or dermally, where such contamination presents a very low risk of infection.

Does Strattera make a person calmer?

Strattera (atomoxetine) is primarily used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and works by increasing levels of norepinephrine in the brain, which can help improve focus and attention. While it is not a stimulant like some other ADHD medications, it may contribute to a sense of calmness for some individuals by reducing impulsivity and hyperactivity. However, the effects can vary from person to person, and it may not necessarily make everyone feel calmer. Always consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice.

Do adipex make you sleepy?

No, Adipex does exact oppsite. I've been on it for over a year and I've never taken it in hopes of going to sleep. If I want to go to sleep I wont take it,lol. Besides the jolt of energy the avg person feels from adipex, it also suppresses your hunger quite well. Adipex is a form of Amphetamine, like "meth" . Its a central nervous system stimulant. Take it when you know you will be awake for at least 10-13 hours. Sometimes I will take just half in the morning and half at about 1 or 2pm, to avoid the jittery jolt you sometimes get when taking it. As always drink plenty of water, too. This medicine tends to give you dry mouth.

Can you take Strattera and smoke marijuana?

How much weight did you lose on Strattera what dose and how soon?

I am a male and I weight in at a hefty 275lbs @ 6ft back in September of '08 by February of '09 I was weighing in at 245lbs. The only change I made in eating habits was drinking some sort of juice pref V8 and a granola bar or banana instead of skipping breakfast like I did all the years before I was on an ADD treatment. The reason I started eating something in the morning was the nasty chemical burp ups I would get on an empty stomach. Kinda like an medicine, eating helps with the sour stomach. I still eat like a mad man just I now know when to stop I think that is from the medicine kinda helping with the impulse and mental boredom (You know eating because your bored). Hope this helps!
