How many times must you water a sunflower seed?

Which month do sunflower bloom?

That depends on where you live. Mid to late spring, such as in May or June in the Northern Hemisphere, or November or December in the Southern Hemisphere, is usually the best time. If you live in an area that is warm year-round, you can plant them in any month.

Can sunflowers be planted in the fall?

no,i dont think so because they may die

Yes, you plant tulip bulbs in the fall and they will bloom in the spring. Follow directions on the bulb's packaging. If you have a tulip plant that was force bloomed out of season, once the plant dwendels, let the plant's greenery dry up and turn brown, then trim the leaves off to apx. 1-2 inches above the dirt, and carefully remove bulbs from dirt and store in a mesh bag in a cool (not freezing) dark place. You may also want to make note of the color and name of the bulbs as you remove them from the dirt to store, so you will know what colors and sizes you have when replanting them. Replant the bulbs according to (online) directions, ie depth and width between, and stir bone meal in the dirt according to directions for "prepared ground" in the upcoming fall for blooms in the spring. Water all newly planted plants well, once a day for 3 days. If you can keep the squirrels and weasels from eating your bulbs, you will have nice flowers in the spring sometime around Easter, depending on your climate.

What does a sunflower feel like?

Yes, sunflowers feel sensitivity.

They "feel" sensitivity in that they respond to stimuli, such as the direction and amount of light or damage to parts of itself. It does not "feel" in that it cannot experience pain, discomfort, or emotional distress.

What colours are sunflowers?

How tall do sunflowers get?

Where are sunflowers originally from?

AnswerThe sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is an annual plant that originated in Southeastern U.S. about 5000 years ago. It was used by the local natives in bread, medical ointments, dyes and body paints. Making it way to Mexico (trading between tribes) it was a valuable plant used by the Aztecs and Otomi of Mexico and the Incas of South America. In 1510 the Spanish explorers carried seeds back to Europe, and it became very popular across the continent as a food source and as an ornamental flower.

Is sunflower an economic plant?

Sunflowers for seed production is a $14 billion dollar a year business.

Does salt water effect the sunflowers plant growth?

If you mean salt water as in an experiment, you have to remember that salt will dehydrate the plant by the process of osmosis. A formerly healthy plant, when given the salt water, will begin to wilt, have yellowing of the leaves and any further growth will be stunted.

If you mean growing sunflowers at a beach property, I can tell it to you straight. It can't be done unless you really, really protect the plant (greenhouse environment with filtered water and soil brought in from elsewhere). Like most annuals, sunflowers do not tolerate salt spray.

Why are sunflowers so tall?

I'm a landscaper who grows sunflowers for clientel and happen to know a lot about them. sunflowers are originally thought to have come from either russia or north America. the mammoth sunflowers grow fast and become tall not because they want to be noticed but because they need to have height in order to collect sun. Furthermore as the sunflowers grow the bottom leaves naturally begin to die off as new ones emerge from the stalk. Also sunflowers prefer to be fed, while it is not necessary, they seem to flourish better in areas with a well propagated ground. given these factors a lot of scientists and biologists believe that sunflowers get they're height because they are used to growing in crowded spaces among other plants. the sunflower itself does not seem to have a long evolutionary history because they have little to no protection against wild animals (except for a thick nasty tasting stalk and plenty of height) and the only protection they have against insects is tiny hairs that grow along the stalk. most of my clients would complain of diseases on the stalk, leaves, and seed. This suggests that they're immune system is fairly weak.

Most sunflowers are annuals not because they're seeds can't last the winter, but because animals such as birds and mammals constantly eat them. the smaller dwarf sunflowers usually have more volunteers than my mammoths but that could be the small seeds being hard to find by birds, people, and wild animals.

another bi-product of the sunflower is sunflower seed oil. this was discovered by people when they would cut the stalks down and shave the leafs off. today it has many uses but because it drips slowly and they're is very little per plant it can't be bought easily as a wholesale item. the seeds themselves get coated in sunflower seed oil which is why they often turn a dark shady brownish color after sprouting stripes.

How sunflower is suited to where it lives?

Sunflowers are well-suited to their environments due to their deep taproots, which allow them to access water and nutrients from deeper soil layers, making them resilient in dry conditions. Their large, broad leaves capture sunlight efficiently, optimizing photosynthesis. Additionally, sunflowers are heliotropic during their early growth stages, turning to face the sun, which maximizes light exposure for growth. These adaptations enable sunflowers to thrive in a variety of habitats, particularly in temperate climates.

Is a sunflower multicellular?

yes they are multicellular they are also vascular

What causes sunflowers to bend toward the sunlight?

Mature sunflowers do not track the Sun.

Immature sunflower buds exhibit heliotopism. The heliotropic motion of the bud is performed by the pulvinus, a flexible segment just below the bud, due to reversible changes in turgor pressure (no growth).

Many plants are known for their ability to track the movements of the sun by a process called solar tracking or heliotropism. This is sometimes controlled by water movement in and out of cells and plant hormones.

However, cultivated sunflowers will track the sun only when young or in bud. Once mature, the flowers tend to face east. Wild sunflowers do not track the sun.

I

As to why they face east, no one knows at this time. It is thought it may be to protect young developing seeds from the hot rays of the afternoon sun.

Leaves of many plants track the sun to collect the most light energy for photosynthesis, but photosynthesis has nothing to do with the leaf movements.

How long do sunflowers take to grow?

In a warm temperate climate the giant - type sunflowers take about three months from seed to flower. The miniature varieties are a bit less.

What is the growth rate of sunflowers?

My Little Giant seeds have all been volunteers for the past have dozen years. They sprout in late April or early May, and reach their full height by early August. They continue to mature until the end of August and into September, but their full height is achieved within 90 days.

They average about 10 feet, though the head bends the stalk down. If they were straight, and the root ball was included, you would have about 12 feet altogether, or 1.6 inches per day. I should try measuring them this year, in the morning and in the evening--12 hours apart, to see what part of the day the biggest spurt occurs.

How long does it take for sunflowers to birth young?

it takes up to a week for a the seed to germinate, then it can take up to a month for it to turn into an actual plant, then a few weeks from then for the sunflower head to start growing. so all up it takes a few months for the sunflower to actually grow and you won't get any seeds from it until it is fully grown. :)

When is the time to harvest sunflower seeds?

When to cut and harvest the seeds from a sunflower is a matter of choice.

You can do one of the following:

  1. Let Nature do it: When the plant has withered to a lonely brown stalk, and the seed head is bowing towards the ground, it's time to think about protecting the seeds from birds, squirrels and losing some as they drop to the ground. A brown paper bag or a plastic citrus bag (small holes) covering the head will do the trick. You want to look at the back of the heads. When they turn brown, it's time to cut and harvest.
  2. Get 'em Early: when the back of the head turns yellow, cut the stalk about a foot below the head. Find a basement, attic, shed, back room or someplace to hang the heads. You may want to cover. They are ready to harvest when you can run your hand over the seeds, and they pop right out.

Are sunflower seeds healthy?

Yes! Sunflower seeds provide significant amounts of magnesium, selenium, and vitamin E! Vitamin E can also help prevent cardiovascular diseases and diabetic problems. Like all things, however, eating too much can be bad. Sunflower seeds tend to be really salty, especially processed ones. But, eating the right amount can help you stay healthy and fill your hunger. Hope this helps! :)
