The most common superstitions concerning tides state, more deaths occur while the tide is going out and more babies are bone while the tide is coming in.

Some of the lesser known include:

- Fishermen who believe it is unlucky to start any new project when the tide is out.

- Couples married at low tide are believed to not produce children.

- A rising tide is a good time to churn butter, stuff feather pillows, boil water or slaughter pigs.

An ebb tide is best for cutting your hair, taking baths or dressing wounds.

The superstition is that if you hang a horseshoe upside down, your household's luck will pour out of the opening and drain away; whereas if you hang it right side up (with the opening at the top) the luck will collect and be available as needed.

No one really knows but if you leave an umbrella open inside a house you will most likely have bad luck that's what my mom always told me and she still does! lol, But anyway here are some more examples and meanings...Have a black cat (Will get a serious virus after they scratch you) Umbrella in the house (Your umbrella will fly away in a bad storm) Break a mirror (Be kidnapped) Now this one you might know about... According to hindu mythology, keeping lives in captivity is a bad idea. I heard from one of my friend that in a story of hindu mythology, one person had to be in jail for 7 years just because he had a parrot in captivity for 7years.

Yes!! playing with crutches or even a wheelchair if you are not injured is bad luck, long ago i was playing with crutches then either a week or a month after playing with them i got into a bike accident and ended up using crutches
