Well, unless you are a mechanic or an advanced hobby mechanic, I would not attempt it. I have done it along with a partial overhaul. The water pump is located inside the timing chain cover. It requires complete removal of the entire intake system including intake manifolds, removal of the oil pan which includes removing the entire steering system and the front differential just to get to the timing chain cover. Then you get to remove the radiator, fan, power steering pump, and crankshaft pully so you can remove the cover. Once off, you can easily remove the water pump. The job basically requires a complete upper and lower tear down. If you are going to do it, I would strongly recomend doing an overhaul while you are at it (with the exception of messing with the heads and pistons, since that is the only thing left once you get in there). Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I wanted to share my pain before someone else got into it. I did complete the job and the car runs nearly new, but it is not a job for the weekend mechanic. egr solenoid is the most common problem. The EGR Solenoid has a vacuum hose at the top running from the EGR Valve and one vacuum hose that connects to the upper intake manifold. The solenoid is brown in color. Try replacing all of the vacuum hoses before anything first for only 3.00 this could fix your problem as well. (you have a vacuum diagram on your hood)

I own a 2002 XL-7 and the low pressure side is located behind the front grill, next to the right headlight.

You need to purchase the tool for removing the O2 sensor. It's a socket that has a slit down the side for the O2 sensor cable. This will cost you about 20-30$. The 02 sensor will un-screw with a socket wrench. Best done when car is cold. Otherwise you will burn your hands.

I bought a new vitara in 1988 and almost nothing every went wrong with it, through to now, that's 20 years later. I had to change the clutch once and of course the battery, tyres etc a few times.
