If you watch the beginning of the movie it shows the year 1909 when celie was about 13. There is a mistake dealing with the year. Because when they show her having the baby it states winter of the year but when they show spring it shows the year before. So it's about 40 years from when she has her secon child. Now the book I'm now sure but usually when they do a movie based on a book they cover the same time period.

10) The ommission of the verb 'to be'. "who this?", "what you doing here"

11) Use of the infinitive form of the verb 'to be'. "He be looking at Nettie"

12) Ommission of the copula verb - a copula verb is a verb that links the subject to a complement.

Example: It feels cold

It = subject

feels = copula verb

cold = complement (A complement is a description of the subject)

Generally in AAVE, when the copula verb is omitted, the copula verb is 'to be':

Late in the movie, Shug and Celie are walking among beautiful purple flowers and talking about God wanting to be loved, just as we all do. Shug was making the point that she thinks that God "gets pissed off" if we walk by the color purple without noticing it.
