The buddy teams are a system that the Duggars set up to keep track and take care of all the kids. Each older kid (I will refer to them as "head buddies") has at least one buddy. Joy-Anna, who is 17-years-old, is currently the youngest Duggar to be a head buddy, acquiring Jill's buddies once she got married and moved out of the main Duggar house. Most head buddies have 2 or 3 younger buddies. Jill had 3: Joy-Anna, James, and Jennifer. Now that buddy team consists of one head buddy, Joy-Anna, and 2 younger buddies, James and Jennifer. Head buddies help the younger buddies with things like getting dressed, homework, making meals, keeping track of them in public, and other things that a parent would normally do for their children. Head buddies are essentially second parents, since Jim-Bob and Michelle can't take care of all 19 children by themselves. It seems a little odd that Joy-Anna still needed Jill to be her head buddy when she was 17 before Jill handed her the reins. Joy-Anna would be perfectly capable of doing all those things by herself at 17-years-old, but that's just how the buddy teams work. Essentially, buddy teams are the Duggar's version of the buddy system.
