The trouble with royal families is that they represent a standing temptation to anybody opposed to a government. You kick them out, they live in another country and still call themselves King of yours. From a practical point of view, extermination is far safer.

Nicholas probably got rid of some of his Mercedes-Benz staff cars replacing them with French Renaults and Delaunay-Bellevilles ( Cool cars!) as a side-play of all this sabre-rattling about the (Huns) Christmas trees were banned by the4 Russian orthodox Church in l9l6, why- they were of German origin! Act Russian Comrade! and so it went. but they were to a man and woman-Russian Orthodox though one might doubt the zealousness of Alexandra for the reasons cited. during the war, she plunged into (Social welfare) work at veteran"s Hospitals, as did the two older daughters, Olga was qualified as a Registered Nurse, Tatiana was an honorary IKGB (imperial intelligence) officer, probably Major or Inspector.

HM Queen Elizabeth II is related to Grand Duchess Anastasia Nicholevna as well as the rest of the Imperial family murdered in 1918. Most of European royalty today are descended one way or another from Queen Victoria of England or Christian IX of Denmark both known as "the grandparents of Europe".

There are two 20Th century Michael Romanovs. One was the Grand Duke, who was the brother of the Czar, and a General in the ( White) Russian Army. He was technically Czar for a few months but never wore a crown- bu did wear the Garrison Hat- he was very much the ( Fighting General) type. There it is believed he died in the war, of miloitary action, battle wounds, etc- NOT political terrorism, like Nicholas and Family. another Micharl Romanov ( came along) in the thirties in California. He operated a restaurant, Hotel or combination of same with Night-Club overtones. He styled himself as (Prince) Romanov but was not believed to have been active in any resurgent ( good phrase- lilke Anastatic- resurface!) White Russian movement, of which there were several in the interwar period. They ar enot the same man, as Michael the Grand Duke was a war casualty. that"s about the size of it. There may have ben Czars and princes named Michael in the long history of the Romanov family- but these two are the best known.

At the start of WWI the Tsar and his family withdrew all money in foreign bank account (except for in Germany) to use for the war effort, any other money in Russia was confiscated by the Bolsheviks. Due to the economic situation in Germany following the war, Tsar Nicholas had little money left.

I was under the impression upon review of the novel that Mentor is Busch, the American commander in the British D4 task force. The only major piece of evidence toward this is on page 172, at the bottom of the page:

said to mentor by some KGB operative on the other end of the phone. It wouldn't make sense for him to be anyone else, really.

No one was really on the throne when they were executed. Nicholas II was no longer the Tsar, and his brother, Mikhail had turned down the offer to become Tsar. With Nicholas no longer in power, the monarchy fell to Communism. Lenin took control of the country and had the family executed so that none of them could try to reclaim the throne.

Grand Duchess ANASTASIA and her sisters were probably carriers of the hemophilia gene but did not suffer from the effects of hemophilia. Males suffer from hemophilia. In rare cases girls do suffer but that is only when both parents carry the mutated gene

The Anastasia saga- including derivatives and names-altered take-offs has impacted practically every form of entertainment drama ( including Ice Shows) with the exception of Opera. A number of Rock and Roll songs- none mentioning her by name- hint around it- Ruby Tuesday- look at the first two lines, Gloria, Like a Rolling stone- the Girl is identified as a Princess if you listen from the beginning. One hopes a live action treatment of this saga is resurgent ( pun intended) in Hollywood, now- Blow negative- or as they say in Russian- Anastasia! here used as a command to resurface- on a submarine!

There was also a Disney (I think) movie called Anastasia, all about the life of the Romanov Grand Dutchess, but in the movie, she lived, so the facts aren't correct in it all at.
