Elmo Blatch actually committed the murders, convicted of other crimes he confessed ( bragged )his crime to an inmate ( Tommy ) who eventually was sent to Shawshank and made the connection between the two.

Rotten Tomatoes has it at 89% fresh.

IMDb has it at 9.2 making it greatest American movie of all time.

Morgan Freeman was awarded the Best Actor in a Supporting Role award on February 27, 2005 at the 77th Annual Academy Awards for his role as Eddie Scrap-Iron Dupuis in Million Dollar Baby. He was born June 1, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee. At the time he accepted the award he was 67 years old.

Shawshank was filmed in and around the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield Ohio. The prison closed down in 1990, but was used for Air Force One and then Shawshank in the 90s.

The plan was to bulldoze it right after filming, and the crew was told not to bother fixing anything they busted but the prison was saved by local activists. You can take tours there now, including one of areas used in filming Shawshank.

The tunnel Andy made in his cell as well as the sewage pipe he escaped through are available for you to see and touch as well as the room Brooks hung himself in. (It was not filmed in a separate location as is often believed, just an admin room in the prison building).

Andy was innocent of killing his wife, the crime for which he was sent to prison. Another man killed Andy's wife and her lover, a golf professional. Tommy told Red and Andy how another prisoner at another prison bragged to him about killing a golf pro and the wife a of a banker, and how the banker went to prison for his murder.

Red committed murder.

It is based on a true story, but I doubt it really played out anything close to what happened in the movie.

Andy pleads to the district attorney that he is innocent.

Andy gets into fights with the sisters.

Brooks decided whether he was to kill Heywood to have crime worth of staying in prison.

Tommy has a story which says Andy is innocent, warden Norton does not want to let him tell it.

Andy escapes.

Red faces the parole board for a 3rd time.

Red violates parole and heads to Zihuatanejo.

Andy Dufesne was sentenced to jail for two life sentences back to back, one for each of his victims. He broke out after 19 years. He tunneled through the wall using a rock hammer. Then he used a large hard rock to break the sewage pipe and crawled through 500 yards of sewage to escape.

Tim Robbins played Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption.

In the movie they get together in Mexico. They don't actually travel there together. Andy flees there after his escape, and Red travels there after he is paroled. In Steven King's novella, Rita Heyworth and Shawshank Redemption, they don't see each other again after they get out of prison.

40 years

An innocent man wrongly imprisoned gains his freedom, and those who were truly bad paid for their crimes in the end.

After 19 years Andy redeems himself and "buys back" his freedom and then enables Ellis Redding, upon his parole to have a life as well.

Warden Norton made Guard Hadley kill Tommy to make sure Andy never see the outside world to tell of all of the corruption in Shawshank Prison which involved Norton and Hadley.

It is usually best. Colored clothes will lose a little bit of color for a long time and the whites will pick it up. The temperature will vary also.

Andrew Dufresne is the name of the main character in the Shawshank Redemption. In the film he was convicted of killing his wife and her lover but was later acquitted after the real killer named Elmo Blatch was found to have committed the crime.
