============================================
I'm suspecting that you are referring to Maggie Brown, aka The Unsinkable Molly Brown, aka Margaret Tobin Brown, aka Mrs. James J. Brown, but I'm not aware of her ever being known as J. M. Brown.
Mrs Brown was never actually known as either "Molly" or "Unsinkable" in her lifetime. This it transpires was a Hollywood invention, first attributed to Denver Post reporter Gene Fowler and author Carolyn Bancroft in the 1930s. They claimed the "Unsinkable" was in reference to her attitude and wanting to "get things done" as after the sinking Mrs Brown was rescued by the Carpathia, she worked tirelessly, helping the other survivors by handing out food, drinks and blankets. As the ship arrived in New York, Margaret found herself in the spotlight, as everyone had already heard about her bravery and good deeds.

It was going 26 knots(ocean mph).Or you can say it was going 29.90 Miles per Hour.
According to my search she hit it at a speed of aprox 20.5 knots. This is almost the speed that she was cruising before the berg was spotted. The reason for this is that the berg was spotted at around 600 yards only before reaching it. Just because something is true doesn't mean it has no moral lesson. The love part of the story was made up. I think the moral lesson was probably about class difference. Also, you never really understand a horrific event before hearing a personal account.
