Why can't angels be forgiven?

Why can't angels be forgiven?

The Bible has much to say about angels mentioning them close to 300 times. Even though angels and humans have similarities, they are also very different. First, angelic beings are spiritual entities that are not subject to the limitations of human flesh. Secondly, angels are much superior to humans in terms of knowledge. Angels live in God's presence surrounding him in heaven (1 Kings 22:19) and they praise him constantly (Psalms 103:21). Angels know God and about God's ways like no human being does. The Bible tells us that the angels were exuberant witnesses to the creation of the universe (Job 38:7). Angels have the knowledge of good and evil and have free will. Yet, despite their superior knowledge of God, of good and evil and its consequences, the Bible tells us that some angels chose to rebel and to follow Satan and to abandon and forsake their position and dwelling place in heaven (Jude 6). Their choice was a very conscious decision to turn against God and to depart from heaven to join Satan to fight against God. For this reason, God did not spare them (2 Peter 2:4) and Jesus said "… 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels." (Matthew 25:41)

The following two verses are key texts from the Bible to understand the destiny of angels who rebelled against God:

2 Peter 2:4 "For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment;"

Jude 6 "And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling-these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day."

Human beings are all born in spiritual darkness separated from God, but angels were "born" in spiritual light in God's presence. This makes them all the more conscious and responsible for their choices. For these reasons, angels cannot be forgiven. We are tremendously privileged to be the objects of God's grace and forgiveness if we simply repent and turn to Jesus recognizing him as our Savior and our Lord.

Since we have such a privilege, the Bible says "how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation?" (Hebrews 2:3)
