In the 1950s, when rock and roll was becoming the dominant music on the radio and baby boomers like me were young teenagers, American Bandstand was the first nationally-syndicated show aimed at that baby boomer audience. Bandstand was a pop culture experience-- it featured stylishly dressed and attractive teens from the Philadelphia area (where the show was broadcast), doing the latest dances, which is how many of us learned the steps. We fans wanted to be like the folks we saw on Bandstand; they seemed so confident and poised; some were romantically involved too, and we vicariously lived through their relationships. I was among the many young teens who dreamed of one day dancing on the show or meeting Dick Clark himself. Coming home from school and watching American Bandstand was an important part of life in the late 1950s.

No Vanna White and Pat Sajak Signed a new contract last year to do the show through 2014 with Sony Pictures Television (SPT). SPT said at the signing that they were very happy with Pat and Vanna and there contracts would continue to be renewed as long as they wanted to continue hosting the Show.

Do you really think that the scene was unscripted. How do you think that Merv Griffin was available to be on camera within seconds of the kiss starting. He is not part of the show usual cast of characters. It was a special put together just like when Pat Sajak showed everyone he was bald.

Pat Sajak and Vanna White recently extended the contract with Sony pictures until the year 2014 in a recent announcement. They did not make the salary arrangements public at that time nor have they since Sony pictures has been signing contracts with Pat Sajak and Vanna White. What is known is that they have the number one syndicated show on TV and have had it for a number of years. That demands a high salary. Estimates of 5 to 10 million a season that have been made and are just estimates. Based on what has been paid for the hosts of less successful shows I expect it to be in the low eight figure range because the ratings and popularity support a figure in that range. But again that is a guess because the actual salaries are private and not part of the public record. Conan was paid that much not to do his show.

No Vanna White did not retire from Wheel of Fortune. On Thursday March 24 2011 a single episode will air out of the five episodes recorded on that day where another person will assist Vanna White. Vanna will still have to be on the set while it is recorded and may actually be on stage during the episode.
