What is the value of a 1922 US 20 dollar gold certificate?

As of 04/2011 approximate prices are:

Circulated: $175 to $375 depending on the bill's condition

Uncirculated: $800

Serial Numbers

A bill's serial number is a counter and a security feature. In most cases it doesn't affect a bill's value or help to identify it. Some collectors specialize in bills with low serial numbers (e.g. 00000005) or unusual patterns (12344321) so these can bring above-average prices.

DISCLAIMER: The values quoted are market averages as of the date shown, but may be different for an individual bill due to variations in quality and other factors. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a bill will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable currency dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on an in-person inspection.

What is the value on a series 1934 US 5 bill with a misprint The bill is all green no blue and the misprint is on the back the very left hand side of the bill ends and then ends again?

First off, this isn't a misprint, at least with the fact that the bill is mostly green rather than blue. This just means that you have a $5 Federal Reserve Note and not a $5 silver certificate. I'm a bit confused of what" the bill ends then ends again" is supposed to mean, but it sounds like a rather minor error and most likely wouldn't add much to the value. Condition is very important when it comes to paper currency and if uncirculated your bill might be worth $60+, however, if it is circulated about $10 or $15 is about average for them.

What is the value of a 1970 US 1 dollar bill?

The US didn't print any $1 bills dated 1970. Please check again and post a new question.

How many US 50000 dollar bills are in circulation?

None, because the US never printed a $50,000 bill.

The only high denominations printed for circulation were $500, $1000, $5000, and $10,000. They haven't been printed since 1945 and are worth more as a historical artifacts so you are very unlikely to come across them in stores. There were also special $100,000 bills made for use by the Federal Reserve System but these were never available to the general public.

Richard Nixon ended printing of high value banknotes in 1969 as one of the many steps to fight organized crime. Currently the Federal Reserve only prints up to $100 and has no intention of printing higher denomination notes due to concerns about their use by drug traffickers and terrorists.

What is the value of a 1934 500 dollar bill with mark A on it?

Any $500.00 note is worth more than face value, but that depends on the condition, whose signatures are on it and the Federal Reserve District it was issued from. Please, take it to a dealer for a accurate assessment.

How old does an American bill have to be to be worth more than face value?

There's no specific answer. It depends on a number of factors in addition to age, among others the bill's condition, denomination, what letter if any is below or next to the date, and its seal color (in some cases). For a few Federal Reserve Notes, the issuing district can make a difference as well. Finally, there are niche collectors who look for bills with unusual serial numbers such as 12345678 or 34343434.

Is a 1928 G US 2 dollar bill a silver certificate?

No. The red printing and banner across the top indicate that they are a form of currency called United States Notes. For bills dated 1928 and later, the seal color and banner indicate what kind of currency the bill is.

U.S. Notes were very similar to the current Federal Reserve notes in that they weren't backed by gold or silver in the Treasury. U.S. Notes were issued up till the 1960s. Because there was no monetary difference between the 2 forms, U.S. Notes were phased out in favor of Federal Reserve Notes to save on printing costs.

For information about values, please see the question "What is the value of a 1928 G US 2 dollar bill?"

Why doesn't the bill have "In God We Trust"?

That motto wasn't added to paper money until the late 1950s and early 1960s, mainly due to Cold War fears of "godless Communism"

Serial Numbers

It's normally not necessary to provide a bill's serial number when asking about its value. Serial numbers are counters and a security feature but rarely affect a bill's value. Some collectors will pay extra for numbers with a special pattern, e.g. 12345678, or low numbers such as 00000015.

What markings does a silver certificate dollar bill have?

Small-size silver certificates dated 1928 through 1957 are easy to recognize. They all have the words SILVER CERTIFICATE in the banner across the front, they do not have a Federal Reserve letter, and except for certain WWII bills they all have blue seals and serial numbers.

Special WWII bills with brown or yellow seals were printed for use in threatened areas, but the banner across their top front still identifies them as silver certificates or Federal Reserve Notes as applicable.

Older large-size silver certificates printed before 1928 may be more difficult to recognize. Some will still have the wording across the top, but others may say something like "Five Silver Dollars" or "One Dollar in Silver Coins".
