What is a recipe for vegan quesidillas?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Start with two flour tortillas. Place one on a hot, oiled skillet, sprinkle about 1/2 cup cheese (cheddar, monterey jack or a mixture of both are best), a little chopped onion, some cilantro, maybe a little chop't tomatoes, some sliced grilled chicken or beef fajita meat on the tortilla. Place the other tortilla on top, flip the quesadilla over to fry on the other side so the ingredients get hot and the cheese melts. You can use any combination of filling ingredients you want. Cheese alone is great, also. Dip the quesadilla in sour cream flavored with taco seasoning, or just plain salsa. This is something you can get very creative with :)

Vegan help you lose weight?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Eating a vegan diet can help with weight loss, as long as it is balanced and appropriately portioned. Vegan diets tend to be lower in calories and saturated fat than diets that include animal products. They are also high in fiber, which can help to keep you feeling full for longer, and may help to promote weight loss by reducing appetite. One of the key things to keep in mind when following a vegan diet for weight loss is to be mindful of portion sizes, as well as the types of foods you are consuming.

Can vegans have pets?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Some of your more ... um, "progressive thinkers" ... may object to the word "pet." Grammatical finickiness aside, if it's un-vegan to have a pet, it's un-vegan to have friends. Call them "companion animals" instead and you'll probably not find many vegans who object.

Vegans may face a bit of a moral quandary about obligate carnivore pets, who need compounds that are pretty much only to be found in animal sources in order to live.

Modern science can alleviate this somewhat with supplements, but for cats in particular, your choices are pretty much "non-vegan", "non-natural", or "dead cat" (any food claiming to be vegan, "all natural", and healthy for cats is lying ... or at least stretching the truth considerably ... about at least one of those terms). Relaxing the "all natural" requirement is probably the least morally objectionable if you're a vegan; if you're not, relaxing the "vegan" requirement makes by far the most sense, since cats in the wild are certainly not vegan.

Is vegan food healthy?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Vegan food has no cholesterol*, low fat (mostly), considerably less toxins and much other pluses. I went vegan for the animals but feel way better ( it's like karma is being good to me, for once : ) ). This is a tough subject, so go to these sites:

http://www.chooseveg.com/ (click on for your health at the top)

Contrary to what many think, vegans do get an adequate amount of protein. Don't fret about vitamin B12 either because your body can store it for five years or more. Oops, I overdone myself. Just copy and paste the websites and you'll learn all you need.

Good luck on your journey!

*Vegans do get good cholesterol from saturated fats among other things.

Why was the vegan diet created?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I believe that it would mostly be for religious/animal rights reasons. For religious reasons: maybe they believe in reincarnation and if they eat a hamburger, they may be eating their grandfather or something. It sounds strange to someone who doesn't understand it. For animal rights: maybe they think that the killing of animals is cruel and inhumane, no matter what form it is done in, and to eat anything doing with animals would be praising that. There are still many reasons but those are the big ones I would assume.

What is the difference between strict vegetarian and partial vegetarian?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

  • Partial vegetarian is a person who is, by title, vegetarian, but still enjoys meat products.

Usually such people avoid meat on bone and fish, but have no problem eating it when concealed, like in McDonald's or in some other kind of dish.

Occasional vegetarian is a person who is vegetarian sometimes and sometimes not. Usually they would refrain from meat for a few months (usually due to a diet) and then eat again when the vegy time is over.

  • I am a vegetarian. Although I'm not partial or occasional, I eat fish as a substitute for meat. I have been a vegetarian since birth and plan to keep it that way.
  • you cant be amlost or partial veggie , its either i do eat meat or i dont , and instead of eating fish you should just eat soy bugers and soy meat, but if you even have the least craving of meat then your be a veggie for the wrong reason . be a veggie and a vegan , watch peta2 videos .

Is buffalo mozzarella suitable for vegans?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No. Technically, vegans don't eat animals or any type of animal by-products (nor wear them, as they appear in cosmetics, on shoes and on clothing). Animal by-products include eggs, milk, cheese and butter. Dairy, even if from a buffalo, could therefore never qualify as vegan.

If you are wondering, here's a little extra information about the vegan diet and lifestyle.....

There are many, many more stealthy animal by-products (either dairy based, egg-based, or animal-fat/bone/tissue based). In fact, many hidden ingredients in processed foods, even foods that you might not expect, contain animal by-products. For example, vegans can't eat some dyes or eat any processed sugar from conventional foods because the sugar is refined by a process that utilizes crushed up animal bones, or maybe the artificial coloring is from an animal source (crushed up insects in red #4 count as animals too!) Just a little more about veganism for ya.

How much weight can you lose being vegan?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Meat is not necessarily the most fattening part of your diet. If you would like to be a vegetarian that's fine, there are lots of good reasons to be a vegetarian (although I personally still eat meat) but that does not in itself guarantee that you will lose weight. What matters for weight loss is your total calorie consumption, no matter what kind of food you are eating.

Do vegans eat agave nectar?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Most cane sugar is processed using bone char (the ground up bones of cows) to bleach the sugar granules. Therefore, agave nectar would be the alternative to sugar in a vegan diet. However, beet sugar, (Pioneer and Big Chief sugar are made using sugar beets) does not require bone char for processing. Therefore, this sugar is acceptable in a vegan diet.

Would going vegan help being diabetic?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Absolutely: a low-fat, whole-foods, vegan diet is an excellent choice for diabetics. Avoiding animal-derived foods eliminates all animal fats, which cause your body to be more resistant to insulin. It also eliminates animal protein, which accelerates kidney damage in people who have already lost some kidney function, and increases the loss of calcium, increasing your risk of osteoporosis. Plant protein does not present these problems. In addition, you should avoid added vegetable oils, because they are high in calories. You should avoid high-glycemic-index foods including sugar, flour, most dry cereals, white potatoes, watermelon, and pineapple. Enjoy pumpernickel, rye, barley, oats, pasta, sweet potatoes. Load up on beans, lentils, vegetables, and most fruits.

Do vegans live longer?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

"No, vegetarians don't. they tend to live much longer as long as they have a balanced diet." (I left previous answer as to not destroy it)

No, not really, it's actually a very debatable subject. Eating too much meat is certainly bad, but there are essential nutrients that we can get best through meat. We are omnivores, so we should be eating both, but probably eat less meat is good, because too much meat can be very unhealthy. Also, it is about eating a lot of balanced meat, such as fish and turkey, not only beef and pork.

Why did veganism begin?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It was coined by D. Watson for his magazine, Vegan News #2 (no mention is made of a #1), published in February of 1944. He was looking for a way to draw a distinction between followers of his diet, which would forbid "the fruits of the cow" as well as of any other animal (eggs, honey, etc), from vegetarians.
