Veterans Day Holiday

Veteran's Day was originally called "Armistice Day".

We as Americans should honor every single soldiers that has risked and gave their lives to protect ours and our country. Even the one's that are still standing next to us today. Veterans Day shoulnd't just be a day when people take the day off to go shopping. that not what Veteran's Day is about.

People in America celebrate Veteran's day in 3 ways. First, they hang flag outside there houses. Secondly, they have a moment of silence at 11:00 AM. Last some people put flower on the graves of fallen veteran's.

Mail was delivered by the civilian Postal authorities to the Military postal authorities. The military then handled the mail delivery to army units, navy ships, etc. The mail would have been carried to/from the trenches by soldiers. Most military units have sailors or soldiers that are "mail clerks" that sort incoming mail & gather out-going mail. These clerks would distribute the mail to the units, the leaders of the units would get it to the soldiers. If you have seen American war movies, many show the scenes when the soldier responsible for getting the mail to the troops calls out "mail call", and soldiers gather to get mail.

Veterans Day became a national holiday in the US on June 1, 1954.

Commonest reason I guess is "cant be bothered". But of the active non-wearers, the argument seems to center on not wanting to appear to support either existing wars or war centric policies of past governments, or more generally wish to avoid glorification of war. This is simpleminded tosh. Wear a poppy to commemorate those who died. They didn't have a choice. Their sacrifice was not a moral or political position made real. They were then the victims of political, moral, or human failure. Wear it to remember the individual dead, nothing else. And thank God we can no longer be required die for our political donkeys.

President Woodrow Wilson established Armistice Day as a holiday on November 11, 1919. Then Later in 1953 Alfred King had the idea that Armistice Day should be a day to honor all Veterans who had fought for the USA. Then later on May 26, 1954 president Dwight Eisenhower signed into law that Armistice Day had been replaced by Veterans Day. Finally on June 1, 1954 Veterans Day was an official holiday.

From your local VFW hall, were they often pass them out around Veteran's Day.
