Who is Mary Our Lady of Chevremont?
I am currently reading Joan Carroll Cruz's book, Miraculous Images of Our Lady. Chapter 12 is dedicated to Our Lady of Chevremont. According to Cruz, it is a statue of Our Lady (Mary the Mother of God) in a shrine in Liege, Belgium. The statue is only eight inches high, and is one of the oldest miraculous images of Our Lady. Our Lady holds the Christ Child on her right arm and her left arm is positioned at her waist. Cruz mentions that many miracles have been attribute to Our Lady of Chevremont and that devotion to her has remained constant since the building of the first chapel in the seventh century. However there are no details concerning the miracles (many of the other miraculous images discussed inn the book do have details). Chevremont was initially a Roman stronghold on a hill near the future site of the city of Liege. The original "Lady Chapel" dates back to the seventh century and a Chancellor in the court of King Sigebert III named Ansegise and his wife St. Begga. The Chancellor added ramparts, walls, and the chapel to the fortress. That chapel was severely damaged in 986 when Lothaire, the King of France, besieged the fort. Later in the 17th century Jesuit Priests built a new moderately sized chapel. Over the course of the next two centuries the chapel was enlarged and eventually a Gothic style church was built for the growing number of pilgrims. A monastery was also built at Chevremont for the group of Discalced Carmelites that came to dispense the Sacraments to the pilgrims. In 1923 Pope Pius XI granted a Papal Coronation. There was again an increase in the number of pilgrims to the site and it was elevated to the status of a Minor Basilica. During WWII the Basilica was bombed. The roof was blown off, the stained glass windows were shattered, and a nearby tree was reduced to splinters. A bomb exploded within feet of the chapel housing the statue of Our Lady. The chapel alone remained intact and inside the statue remained standing in its place undamaged. Costly repairs were made to the Basilica with the help of a surtax on special Belgium stamps issued in 1948 depicting the Shrine, the Basilica, and St. Begga. citation: Cruz, Joan Carroll. Did the Blessed Virgin Mary die a natural death?
There are two possible situations. Either Mary, at the end of her time on earth, was assumed into Heaven without experiencing death or she died and, shortly after her death, her body was assumed into Heaven and reunited with her soul. Both beliefs are allowed for Catholics. Today the consensus seems to be the latter where Mary died a natural death and was then assumed.
Who does the Immaculate Conception refer to?
The concept of "Immaculate Conception" is widely misunderstood. It has nothing to do with Mary's conception of Jesus (Virginal Conception), but with the conception of Mary herself in her mother's womb. Her parents, Saints Joachim and Anne, obviously conceived her through normal sexual intercourse, but she was -and still is- considered to be free of Original Sin. Original Sin is not a sin per se, but the potential to do sin. In any case, Immaculate Conception refers to the conception of Mary, not of Jesus.
Mary was conceived in her mother's womb without the stain of Original Sin.
Why does the Virgin Mary have horns?
There are several artistic renderings of Mary as depicted in Revelation 12:1:
A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. (NAB)
In some depictions, the moon under Mary's feet is crescent-shaped, with both ends of the crescent sometimes looking like horns.
How many children did the Virgin Mary have after Jesus died?
None. A few days after Jesus died, Mary just rose into heaven. Kind of like transporting.
What are the two parts of the Hail Mary?
Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death. Amen.
What do Mexicans believe about Our Lady of Guadalupe?
Catholics pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary because Jesus gave her to all of us as our mother when he hung on the cross through the disciple, John. The "type" of the Blessed Virgin Mary was foreshadowed in the Old Testament in the "Queen Mother". Read 1 Kings 1:19. The Queen in the Kingdom of Israel was always mother of the King. She petitioned him for intervention and he acceded to her requests. Everything in the New Testament is foreshadowed in the Old Testament. We see this played out at Jesus' first miracle which was done at the request of His mother.
from The Catechism of the Catholic Church, second edition, English translation 1994
969 "This motherhood of Mary in the order of grace continues uninterruptedly from the consent which she loyally gave at the Annunciation and which she sustained without wavering beneath the cross, until the eternal fulfillment of all the elect. Taken up to heaven she did not lay aside this saving office but by her manifold intercession continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation . . . Therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix." (Lumen Gentium 62)
970 "Mary's function as mother of men in no way obscures or diminishes this unique mediation of Christ, but rather shows its power. But the Blessed Virgin's salutary influence on men . . . flows forth from the superabundance of the merits of Christ, rests on his mediation, depends entirely on it, and draws all its power from it." (Lumen Gentium 60) "No creature could ever be counted along with the Incarnate Word and Redeemer; but just as the priesthood of Christ is shared in various ways both by his ministers and the faithful, and as the one goodness of God is radiated in different ways among his creatures, so also the unique mediation of the Redeemer does not exclude but rather gives rise to a manifold cooperation which is but a sharing in this one source." (Lumen Gentium 62)
975 "We believe that the Holy Mother of God, the new Eve, Mother of the Church, continues in heaven to exercise her maternal role on behalf of the members of Christ" (Paul VI, Credo of the People of God § 15).

1408 Why pray to Mary at all?
Because God wills that we should do so, and because such prayers to her are of the utmost value. God often wills to give certain favors only on condition that we go to some secondary agent. Sodom was to be spared through the intercession of Abraham; Naaman, the leper, was to be cured only through the waters of the Jordan. Now Mary is, and must ever remain, the mother of Christ. She still has a mother's rights and privileges, and is able to obtain for us many graces. But let us view things reasonably. If I desire to pray, I can certainly pray to God directly. Yet would you blame me, if, at times, I were to ask my own earthly mother to pray for me also? Such a request is really a prayer to her that she may intercede for me with God. Certainly, if I met the mother of Christ on earth, I would ask her to pray for me, and she would do so. And in her more perfect state with Christ in heaven she is not less able to help me.
1411. It is unscriptural to attribute power to Mary.
That is a very unscriptural statement. At His mother's request Jesus changed water into wine at Cana, though He had said, "My time is not yet come." St. James tells us that the "prayer of a just man availeth much. (James V., 16) How much more the prayer of Mary!
1412. Does the Bible sanction such prayers to Mary?
Yes. All through the Bible you will find God conferring favors through the prayers of others. In the Old Testament we read of the prayers of Abraham, Moses, and of the various prophets. In the New Testament, St. James tells us to "pray for one another," in the text I have just quoted. If we must always pray directly to God and may not ask the prayers of others, why did St. Paul write to the Thessalonians, "Pray for us that we may be delivered from importunate and evil men?" (2 Thess. III,., 2.) Why did he not ask that directly of God, instead of asking the prayers of the Thessalonians? Or would you be more scriptural than the New Testament itself?

Catholics believe that at the Second Coming of the Lord, His chosen ones who have died will also have our bodies and souls reunited and will be caught up to Heaven. The only difference in Mary's case, is that by a singular miracle of God, like that of the Prophet Elijah, who is said in Scripture to have been caught up into Heaven, Mary's soul immediately after her falling asleep in the Lord Jesus Christ, was reunited with her body, and she was brought up to Heaven to be reunited with her beloved Son. Catholics look for and hope for the same for each of us in the fullness of time. An explanation and background Although this event is not mentioned in Sacred Scripture, Sacred Scripture does refer to "a woman clothed with the sun, wearing a crown of stars" who was brought by God into a special place prepared for her. Catholics believe that this description is an allusion to the Blessed Virgin Mary's place in Heaven. The basis for this belief is that it accords with the memory of the Church from antiquity; in the year 451 when the Emperor Marcian asked the Bishop of Jerusalem for the honor of hosting Mary's remains in a church he wished to have built for this purpose, the Bishop replied that Mary had died in the presence of the Apostles; shortly afterwards the tomb was found to be empty, by which the Apostles of the Lord concluded that Mary's body had been taken to Heaven by God. Although not written down in Scripture, this account had been handed on from teacher to disciple down to the bishop's own time.
We have no idea when Mary was born but the nativity of Mary is celebrated by Catholics on September 8.
