What is the whales basic needs?
One reason we need blue wale is it helps keep the fish population down . if we didn't have the wales water creatures would rule the earth
There are a number of reasons.
1. Despite the claims made by pro-whaling countries, videos of whaling show that it is often not a quick death. In some cases the whale is hung upside down (fighting to escape, to breath), with it's head & blow hole (breathing hole) below the water until it suffocates.
2. The rate at which whales reproduce is slow, and the rate at which they can be hunted is high. This will cause extinction.
3. Whales provide only a small input into the food chain, so the gains are out weighted by 1 & 2. (IE it's unnecessary)
4. Just because it is "traditional" is no justification. It used to be traditional in some countries to offer live human sacrifices to the Gods when launching a new ship. In others it used to be traditional to bury the wife (alive) along side her dead husband, or to include her on the funeral pyre.

Some of the problems the Blue Whale face today other than hunting are warmer sea temperatures and global warming. Whale migration is based on warm/cold trends of the ocean. Not only affecting their ability to know when to migrate but also their food supply with the infusion of fresh water from melting ice caps.
Fishing nets in which the Blue Whale could be entangled and trapped. Pollution, especially PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyl) which build up in a whale's body and over time proves to be toxic and deadly.
Ocean noise pollution caused by an increase in sea traffic, which affects the ability of whales to hear each other.
