I tried Carnivores 2 Windows95/98 version on Windows 8. There is no problem with graphics and game play but there is serious compatibility issue for sound.

I tried different choices for sound setting in the game, even the best one has serious problems. Sometimes the sound turned into loud noise during game play or on the starting page and then the computer did not respond to the keyboard and mouse. One time when I tried to escape the loud noise by going back to desktop setting because the quit game button did not work, all the icons on the desk top of my new computer disappeared and even the charm bar failed to appear. I had to turn off the computer with the power button.

After having tried out three times with similar scary result, I decided not to risk damaging my computer with the old game, therefore, I uninstalled the game from my computer for good.

On the other hand, Carnivores Cityscape Windows 98/Me/2000/XP is running well on my computer with Windows 8.

I still like the game Carnivores 2 very much because the dinosaurs are more lifelike and appears to be smarter than the dinosaurs in Carnivores Cityscape.

By the way, do not try to "upgrade" Windows 7 to Windows 8 or Windows 98 to Windows XP for that matter. I was fooled into "upgrading" my Windows 98 to Windows XP. Then I found out that the so-called upgrade made my computer fail to read most of my files made with Windows 98 and I couldn't play the game Carnivores 2 anymore. I also had to buy a new printer because the old printer wasn't supported by XP anymore. I saw some Windows users complain about having similar problems after the so-called upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8.

My advice is to buy a new computer but keep the old computer as is to read old files and play old games to avoid the compatibility issues. I find Microsoft to be very unethical to advertise upgrading the operating system when there are compatibility issues for reading old files made on CDs or DVDs.

Windows 8 does not need to be connected to the internet, it will still function perfectly well, however you will not have access to updates that Microsoft distribute from time to time. If you want more virtual memory, first let me explain what is virtual memory is. Virtual memory is a paging file that your hard disk uses a RAM. A Hard disk drive is more slower to reach the Ram. So a paging file is used to store the Hard disk info on the RAM. Once All of the info is stored, it starts the program. Here is how you get more RAM.

1. Click Start.

2. Right click computer, then select properties.

5. Under performance, click settings.

1. Go to notepad.

2. Type in this code myscript (800000).

3. Click save as, then give it the name "RAM.vbe"

(Vbe is the code format your computer uses to take information and run programs.

4. Click start.

5. In the search box type in RAM.vbe.

6. Drag it to your desktop.

7. Click on it.

It depends on the individual laptop's design ! Many laptops have the card slot at the front of the case underneath the touch-pad, but not all laptop cases are designed the same ! If your laptop has a card-slot, it will be obvious as you look around the case !
