The Commissioner's Trophy. The current design has been in use since 2000 and was made by Tiffany and Co. The trophy features 30 flags, one for each team. Unlike the other three leagues, it's not named after a specific person. A new trophy is made each year for the winner.

With 14 World Series appearances, Yankees catcher and outfielder Yogi Berra played the most times in this event. Berra, who played 19 major league seasons for the Yankees, appeared in the Fall Classics of 1947, 1949-1953, 1955-1958 and 1960-1963. The Yankees won 10 world championships during that time.

In recent memory, speedy outfielder Lonnie Smith was a member of three World Series champions in the 1980s -- the 1980 Philadelphia Phillies, the 1982 St. Louis Cardinals and the 1985 Kansas City Royals.

He nearly won a fourth World Series ring. In 1991, he was on the squad of the Atlanta Braves team that lost the World Series in seven games to the Minnesota Twins.

A 1968 Detroit Tigers World Series program played at Tiger Stadium is worth about $125. - $225. in excellent - near/mint condition. A 1968 St. Louis Cardinals World Series program played at Busch Stadium is worth about $100.- $125. As with all collectibles, condition is the most important factor of all providing that the item is authentic. With programs/scorecards the slightest flaws will bring the price down significantly. An exceptional mint condition scorecard could sell for more.

Common flaws would be staining, foxing (yellowing), fading, creases, rips, loose pages, cracked binding, and writing on the cover. Un-scored programs will generally sell at a higher price than a scored program but sometimes it doesn't effect value. The over all condition, and how well the cover displays will.

The value on a "scored" program as opposed to a un-scored program can vary depending on the game, and collectors preference. In general I would say an un-scored program will sell at a higher price. Some collectors do not mind scored programs.

There are at least a minimum of eight teams in Major League Baseball who have not won the World Series and they are the Texas Rangers, the Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays of the America League, the Houston Astros never won the World Series as part of either the American or National League, the Colorado Rockies, Milwaukee Brewers and San Padres of the National League and also the National League's Washington Nationals who had also never won it as the Montreal Expos.

The Major League Baseball (MLB) 1937 World Series was played between the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, with the New York Yankees winning the Series 4 games to 1 game, respectively. As the Most Valuable Player (MVP) did not begin being awarded until 1955, no player was named MVP of the MLB 1937 World Series.

As of the start of the 2008 season, that would be 88 years by the Chicago White Sox who won the World Series in 2005 and had previously won it in 1917. Second would be the Boston Red Sox at 86 years. The Red Sox won the World Series in 1918 and did not win it again until 2004. The only current team that could surpass that record would be the Chicago Cubs who have not won the World Series since 1908.
