If the wick gets black from carbon, and does not light as easily, simply pull the wick up with a pair of pliers and cut the old part off so it is level with the chimney. After doing this a few times, you may need to buy a new wick since you remove some of it each time.

Don't panic! Open the lighter, take it out of the case and let it dry out for a couple of days. Then fill it with lighter fluid, spin the wheel backward to clean the flint off, and see if it lights. The problem is that alchohol in the aftershave won't ignite in a lighter. Let it evaporate for a couple of days, it should take care of the problem.
