because they had beaten them in the World War 1 Because Austro-Hungary had beaten Serbia in world war 1 This is because ever since the independence of Serbia, Sebia had became aggressive and she always want to expand into the the Balkans. Austria (Austro-hungary) on the other hands, also wanted to expand into the Balkans for compensation since she was declining after the defeat of the Austro-Prussian War. There was a clash of interest between Austria and Serbia as they both aim at expanding into Balkans. Serbia particularly wanted to expand into Bosina-herzegovina as she wanted to gain access to the Agerian Sea and breakthrough the land-locked situation. However, Austria had annexed Bosina-herzegonvina. This antagonized Serbia and she prepared to fight. However, without the support of Russia, Serbia could do nothing but to backdown. Hence, Serbia was very angry with Austria and always wanted to take revenge. Serbia hence supported the anti-Austria revolution movement in Bosina-Herzegonia. And this led to the assassination and finally triggered off World War I.
