The Continental Army had the advantage of "Home Court," they knew the land, and they had a lot of local support from the civilians which is very important, and even more so 200 years ago. However, they were mostly poorly trained, fed or even clothed. Suffering from harsh conditions, disease and hunger, they also had very limited supplies of ammunition and weaponry.

The British Army had superior forces, training and weapons. However, their fighting style was not well suited to the way the Continental Army's way of fighting; guerrilla, ragtag style. Also, the British public was not necessarily supportive of the war, which greatly undermined their war effort, and lowered morale amongst their ranks.

In the end, a large proportion of the victory could be attributed to the Yankee's determination, however, geopolitical conditions cannot be overestimated. The Continental Army is sure to have lost if it weren't for the French involvement, which primarily had to do with the fact that they were enemies of the Brits, and had just 25 years previously lost the French-Indian war to them, and of course, to the American Colonists, who at that time were still mostly loyal subjects to the king. In fact, a major precipitation of the war came about because of the taxes which the British levied upon the American people to pay for that war, claiming that the war was to their benefit more than the British people's, so it was their obligation to pay, hence the Boston Tea Party, and then....

It actually depends on what war you are talking about if its the Trogan War you're talking about then Paris and Helen were pretty much the whole reason the war started because 1) Helen ran away with him and 2) Aphrodite was the other reason that it all happened and it wouldn't have happened if she didn't bribe Paris
