According from Play-Asia, the Xbox 360 is available in three region versions:
* NTSC-U (/C) - United States, Canada.
* NTSC-J - Japan, Korea, Asia ( China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Sri-Lanka, India etc. )
* PAL - Europe & Australia
Why is the Xbox 360 region protected and the Playstation 3 is region free?
Cause Microsoft wants to prevent its piracy things.
So, UK doesnt have NTSC-J Xbox 360 systems but PAL ones, unless you bought one (Xbox 360 NTSC-J) via internet or something;).
A year ago, i also bought some Xbox 360 games from UK (www.amazon.co.uk , cause they got some games which are available in diffrent editions) and all the games were PAL (regions).
So i got also a PAL Xbox 360 and soon also a NTSC-J Xbox 360:).
And some games are or could be region free. Check the website of Play-Asia via this link for region protected games, region free games, in-game languages and more beneath.

NOTE:
When i bought the Xbox 360 (NTSC-J) from Play-Asia, i saw the features and of them was, "This is the Asian version console. Only suitable to play Japanese/Asian NTSC-J encoded or Region Free Games"
Play-Asia is saying in the "Xbox 360 Regional Compatibillity Guide" that there are two NTSC-J versions for Asia like, "Japanese Version" and the "Asian Version". But actually, they arent diffrent. Cause it WILL STAY, the NTSC-J region code. So theres nothing special or worry to about;).
No. NTSC games will not work on a PAL Xbox 360.
As long as the game is from the same region as the Wii system, it will be compatible.
Yes.... all xbox 360 games work on all xbox 360s unless the game is scratched Answer 2Canadian Games (with the NTSC sign on them) work on all NTSC consoles(North America, and maybe south America) They will NOT, however work in European and Australian Consoles, Which are PAL, not NTSC, sorry
yes they will it is compatible also i tried it myself.
No. US games are NTSC while Australian consoles only play PAL games. I think that Australian consoles should work with European, Indian, Chinese and Brazilian games but not American, Canadian or Japanese.
yes if your Xbox 360 is PAL then u have to buy PAL games
Yes, it will as long as your TV is NTSC compatible. If it is not, there is and NTSC-PAL adapter available which will allow this to work on older TV which are not compatible with NTSC
The short answer is no. The UK uses different AC voltage and plugs from the US, and also a different television system (PAL) from the US (NTSC). These are not compatible. (Television programs traded back and forth have to be converted, to be watched.)
yah my xbox 360 plays PAL, but Nintendo games are not region-free generally.
PS2 games purchased in Peru will be encoded on the NTSC format. This should make them compatible with US PlayStation 2's which are also part of the NTSC coding.
No you cant, since UK uses PAL encoding system, so it stops people from bringing USA games or equipment for the Xbox 360 to UK or vis versa while USA uses the NTSC encoding system, these codes are encoded into the Xbox 360, American=NTSC UK,Europe=PAL
Yes, a Chinese HDD works on my Canadian Console. HDD's are region free.
