Can cats get sick from mold?

YesI live in a basement apartment, and our windows are covered in black mold. My cat liked to sit in the window sills a lot. One day I came home to him frothing at the mouth, dialated pupils, running around like a mad man. I took him to the vet... He was having cluster seizures. The eventually got worse.. turned into grand mal seizures. After spending over $2000 on vet bills, trying to get him back to normal, we ended up having to put him down 2 months later. The vet said the mold could have possibly been a factor, because my cat exibited the same symptoms as a human would with mold toxicity. Be very careful with mold. I'm almost positive it killed my cat.

Yes, it's even possible to get severly ill from certain types mold. Yes, cats can get sick from mold exposure. My cat lost 40% of her fur and coughed up hairballs everyday until we figured out that we had a mold problem. Yes they can, and from any fungi growing as one of my cats eat a mushroom that grew up from under the floor, and she had bad diarrhea, and lost weight I thought I was going to loose her but with good care she pulled through and put on weight after 3 weeks

Black mold is not good for humans or pets and can certainly make them sick. In some countries (especially damp weather) can cause a black mold in between the walls and can make whole families sick. If your cat has come in contact with black mold please take it to the vet and tell them. I suggest then you try and get rid of ALL the black mold around your place. Marcy

black mould (aka aspergillus) is a toxic mould to humans, cats have much stronger immune systems and biologies than humans so it is much less likely.

my cat got less sick than me when we stayed in a black mould infested house for 3 years, if he got sick at all, while i had Allergies and chest infections and Asthma.

We got out of there, he was fine with the same problems he had when we moved to the house and no more,

and he did die but it was from old age 2 years later(he was 17) but as long as you clean the mould or move and have the cat examined by a vet things should be ok.

they have much higher toleration to these things than humans have as they have evolved and lived around these things for many more years than we have existed .

my cat got less iill than me when we stayed in a mould infested house for 3 years but it doesn't mean they wont be affected at all however i am unsure about the effects of it having ate any mushroom growing on a carpet that is deffinately something you have to take the cat to the vet about as its internal ingestion rate would be much faster and toxicity much higher than simply inhaling a few spores.

as always the best thing to do is get rid of the mould or move if possible and keep an eye on your cat and your own healths.

yes they can.... maybe some dogs will have a really bad reaction to it and have heart-attack or something like that.... just becareful for ur dog... love it care for it play with it and DO NOT hit it PLEASE

it's possible to get sick from that, because it's usually miost in the area for mold to occur, plus I'm sure there are some bugs, germs near, in the mold
