Probably valve tappets/lifters/pushrods that have gummed up from dirty or overheated oil. Check the oil level and the color of the oil - when new it is gold colored, and when old it is black and sludgy.
If the engine is old and has not had oil changes at frequent intervals, there are additives available to correct the problem to some extent, ie, to get rid of the gummy sludge. Ask for advice at a reputable automotive store such as Canadian Tire, Napa or PartSource. Once the problem is corrected, be sure to change the engine oil at appropriate intervals.
Possibally stuck lifters?
Same problem... ticking eventually goes away and it starts. Need a new computer.
Perhaps clutch throw-out bearing?
If the noise on occurs after the vehicle has sat for a while, it could be a hydralic valve lifter bleeding off. They tend to click for a while until the oil pushes all of tha air out. Maybe go to a lighter weight of oil. BG makes a product called MOA that has helped ease the clicking noise in vehicles I have worked on in the past. Take it easy until it warms up and even clicking it should last for a whole lot more miles!
low on freon. have an a/c check. most likely there is a leak in the system due to the age of the vehicle.
It is your turn signal relay located behind the glove compartment. I have replaced mine and still had the same clicking/buzzing sound. It's most like your turn signal arm because it has a cluster of wires in there and they can't get loose.
If its coming from your engine, you may need a valve adjustment..
why is there squeek noise when starting and then goes away when engine warms up
just keep clicking on ds the light goes away
The "clicking sound" is probably a circuit breaker. If so, you have a short, or overload, in the wiring somewhere.
If it's a slow clicking sound and it goes away when turning the blend door knob it's most likely a stripped out temperature blend door motor.See "Related Questions" below - although written for the Windstar, it should be nearly 100% the same on the Freestar/Monterey...
When It Goes Bad It Will Just Make A Clicking Sound And It Will Not Even Try To Start. And It Is A Pretty Big Price To Get It Fixed
