No, they do not need light at night, they enjoy light but, do not keep them too close to the sun as, this may cause discomfort. They are quite easy to care for, as long as they are provided a clean environment and are fed once a day. They can live for years and years! It is usually 3-4 in a bowl and in a tank 7-8. ∙ 14y agoin the wild they pretty much just live in puddles but they only last a year. you should put your fish in a fishbowl or tank that has a couple gallons and at least has plenty of room to swim around. So as long as they have space and good clean water they should be fine and live 2-3 years. its also probably good to use a water conditioner just for bettas

∙ 12y agoNo that's a horrible idea. It will keep them awake. Actually fish do kind of sleep. They just kind of float around in a sleeping like state. It also creates more algae when its not required.
