How do you change brake rotors on a Hyundai Tiburon?
How do you change the rotors on a 2002 Hyundai Elantra?
Removing the front rotors was no problem on my 2005 Hyundai Elantra. The Elantra has two recessed Phillips screws holding each rotor to the hub. The screws won't come loose with just a screw driver; and you might strip the slot. Spray the screws with PB penetrating fluid (available at most auto part…s stores) and let soak as directed. Then use a hand screwdriver impact tool (available at most hardware or tool stores) and a hammer to break the screws loose without stripping the Phillips slot. The screwdriver impact tool has a Phillips screw driver bit on the end of a hand held metal shaft. The screwdriver impact tool isn't just a screw driver; it's a specialized tool that directs the impact from a hammer into a simultaneous rotation of the screw driver bit. With the bit in the screw slot and the tool set to counterclockwise rotation, smack the end of the impact tool a time or two with a hammer. The impact from the hammer will break the screw loose without stripping the slot. Then remove both screws with a regular Phillips screw driver. After removing the screws, I used a rubber mallet to work the rotors off. When reinstalling new or re-surfaced rotors, reinstall the Phillips screws hand tight with a screw driver. I've owned many cars and have always changed my own brakes. I've never had to use a puller, grinder, sledge hammer or cutting wheel. Even the most stubborn, rusted rotors have come off easily after spraying liberally with penetrating fluid and having the patience to let them soak a while. VERY unfortunately, you have to remove the rotor with the steering knuckle and then have the rotor pressed off! I don't know, but you may be able to use a large gear puller to remove them. Of course, the cotter pin and nut must be removed first. Mine were'NT too bad so I opted to use a 4.5" hand grinder to clean them up a bit. I first used a hammer to knock off the rust buildup (unbelievable for a two year old car), then a wheel to remove the glazing, then a wire brush (on the grinder) to finish up the job. Long job overall, but saved me the over $300 that Hyundai wanted to do it. Good luck! I tried removing the rotor with a puller, however, when I did it, the one side of the rotor actually snapped off. It took about 4 hours of a sledgehammer, heat, and a can of penetrating oil to finally free the rotor. When all is said and done, the rotor came off in about 6 pieces. Most of the pieces were around where the lug nuts come through, the actual disk didn't break (would have saved time and energy if it did). In my book, it would have been well worth $300 to let someone else deal with it. Do not, I repeat, do not waste your time! After working on this an entire weekend, the hubs would not move. Brought them to a machine shop, and with 20 tons of pressure, they wouldn't budge. No amount of heating, hammering, or pulling helped! The hubs would not move from the rotors. I ended up having to get new hubs and bearings. Go to any Hyundai dealer and tell them you are having trouble removing a rotor and they will ask if you are driving an Elantra. ANSWER:: Im new and want to add something here. All the Elantra's rotors are hard to get off. No matter how hard you hit them with a sledge hammer they will never come off UNLESS you take a grinder and a cutting wheel and cut either side of the rotor being careful not to hit the lug bolts or the hub inside. Cut all the way through the part that the brakes hit and then cut as much through the base as you can. I didnt have a cutting wheel so i used a grinding wheel, but I'll bet a cutting wheel works better. After that, hit it with a sledge hammer, it will come off in pieces. Don't worry about having to turn them, they are cheaper to buy new ones than to have them turned. Also, some have 2 screws on the front. Make sure you take the 2 screws out before doing all this. These are to help align the rotor on the hub. ANSWER: Just did this job on 2004 Hyundai Elantra. I did not have to go through the steps mentioned above. After removing the two screws described above, I used at three prong puller and lots of WD-40, a small sledge hammer. First I carefully hit the rotor all around the edges and near the lugs. You should use some emery cloth or sandpaper to clean up the outer edge of the hub. These were HARD to get off and it took a lot of patience to get a millimeter with the puller, back it off, tap the rotor back on, spray it with WD-40 and repeat about 50 times. Eventually I worked it off the hub. The biggest problem that I noticed was the tendency for the rotor to not come off "even" pulling to one side or the other which then jams it on the hub. You have to work slow and make sure you are pulling straight and even off the hub. Eventually I got them. Good Luck! (MORE)
How do you change front brake rotors?
First as I'm sure you know....put the truck on jackstands and remove the wheel. Depending on the year....you have either slide off rotors...or the rotor is all one piece with the hub. Turn the wheel to the appropriate side that you are working on..this will allow easy access to the caliper bolts. Th…e caliper bolts on a Chevy are an Allen head there are two of them located on the inside rear of the caliper.Remove these bolts...and lift the caliper up off the rotor...you may have to do some prying to get it off. Using a piece of wire or something that will support the weight of the caliper tie it up out of your way....Then using a deadblow hammer tap the rotor around the outside edge...it should pop off the hub...if not spray some PB blaster around the hub..or WD 40..wichever is handy (MORE)
What tools do you need to change brake rotors?
Basic tools are required, a jack to lift the car off the ground and a jack stand to insure safety, once off the ground and supported you will need to get a socket or commonly called(lug Wrench) with 19mm or 21mm socket head depending on your lug size. It is usually easier to lift and support both si…des at the same time with the car in park emergency brake set key on so the steering wheel isn't locked. Then once wheels are off you will need a 17 mm wrench/ socket to remove the brake caliper bracket. Once done you should loosen the bleeder valve with either a 8,9 or 10 mm wrench depending on the model, carefully not to get air into the system, and depress the caliper using a tool sold at any kragen or auto parts retailer for about 5 bucks. Imediatly when it bottoms out you should tighten the bleed screw to prevent any air from getting in the system. It is useful to have the master cylinder cap off so any fluid that is not needed in the system can be drained out. It also helps to leave the inner brake pad installed (clipped on) when depressing the caliper so you know when you are getting close to bottoming out the caliper. Next you will need a 13,or 14mm wrench to take the caliper apart to install your new pads. Make sure you use anti-squeak brake adheasive to prevent the loud embaressing noise when brakes are applied. It should be a free floating brake rotor that can come off using minimal force.( should slide right off). You then have your rotors measured for proper spec.s to see if they can be turned or just buy new rotors and replace as needed. (note: turning rotors at a local machine shop can save you money but can take up most of the day trying to find someone to turn them and then having them turned, also new rotors are thicker and disapates heat better allowing your brakes to last longer and are only about 10-15 bucks a side more exspensive then having them turned). Repeat the steps backwards making sure you clean all parts with brake clean to prevent squeaks. Good luck. (MORE)

How do you change the rotors on a 1997 Hyundai Elantra?
My daughter has a 98 Elantra and the rotors are part intergated with the hub assembly. Unless you have a pretty elaborate shop set up in your garage, you will need to take the hub assemblies (both sides) to an automotive machine shop. The reson for this is that the 2-part bubs need to be pressed apa…rt to get the rotors out. This will no doubt damage the bearings so they will need to be replaced. I did this a couple of years ago on my daughters car and the cost was about $80 per side, $37 for labor to press the bearings out (and the new ones in) and about $43 for the new bearings. If you are not comfortable dissassembling the front suspension of your car, I suggest taking the entire car to a reair shop. Of course the labor and parts will probably be double or triple of what they cost to do it yourself, but risk safety just to save a dollar. Life is too valuable (and too short) (MORE)
How do you remove front brake rotors on 1999 Hyundai accent?
Answer .
Piece of cake with proper tools:.
Remove the lug nuts/tire..
12mm wrench will remove the lower bolt from the brake pad caliper. Swing the caliper open and remove the pads. Two more bolts (17mm I think maybe 19mm) and the whole caliper assembly will be hanging by the fluid hose..
Remov…e the cotter pin from the axle nut and remove the nut. It's tight so use a breaker bar or an impact driver. The nut is 1 1/4 inch..
Put a gear puller on the hub assembly centered on the end of the axle. Pull the hub off. The rotor will be bolted to hub..
4 bolts will remove the rotor from the hub. 9/16 inch..
Bolt the new rotor to the hub, put it back in place a pull it back on using the axle nut..
Replace the pads if needed and reassemble..
Good luck! (MORE)

How do you change a headlight bulb on a Hyundai Tiburon?
Headlight bulb Question Answered, I have owned a 03 supercharged 593.8 hp/473.2 ft./lbs GTV6 6-spd, 05 GTV6 353hp/419 ft./lb shark ed. 5-spd auto tiptronic, and now a 06 de-tuned 273hp/303ft.lb Tuscani 6-spd, I have modded them beyond fast and furious standards, no gawdy stickers and vinyls, only a… jekyll and hyde sleepers. The headlights can be taken out two ways : Mounted (still bolted) and dismounted (removed from car). Easy task Mounted is kind of tight and difficult to work with due to the battery being in the way, and having to worm your hands around it to remove the palm-sized screw caps that seal the wiring harness from contamination and water. After removing the cap, the bulbs are held in with pressure clip that is like a paper-clip in size, that holds the bulb flush with the socket, the clip is very delicate and the housing that holds it in place can be broken (resulting in a new headlight ) push it in toward the bulb and down and it will release from the hook, the bulb will fall loose from the housing, the bulb is completely free if it is not attached to the wiring harness; breakage could result. replace the bulb in each headlight using this same method, High beam and low beam H7's are the same, so mixing is not a issue. Now here's the clincher, when replacing the bulbs into the headlight housings, the peg that sticks out from the h7 bulb is very important for proper alignment or your headlights will be pointing in some god-awful direction when you drive at night. Treat the housing like a clock face, as you are not in the engine bay, and probably leaning over the headlight looking at the socket in a upside-down manner, starting on the driver side.... the asphalt is 12, the radiator support is 6, the radiator is 9 and the fender is 3. reversed on the opposite side. for low beams (the halo-style light) the peg points at 12, and then is mounted with the locking clip (if the bulb is not positioned correctly, the clip will be very difficult to put back into place) The high beam (has two places for the peg to go,DO NOT point the peg at 12 o'clock.) on the driver side is positioned with the peg pointing at about 10 o'clock, and then on the passenger side at 2 o' clock, replace the clips (the h.beam clips are just as easy as the low beams, But if not positioned properly you'll almost break fingers trying to push the clip back into place, and risk damage to the headlight altogether.) The dismounted position is the easiest, but more time consuming, a 10mm socket and a small plug removal is all that is needed to separate the headlight from the body, two mounting bolts on the radiator support and one located next to the grill in the nose, once the bolts are removed VERY SLOWLY pull the headlight from the body, it will snag in two places, the plug in the back, and the plastic from the grill, remove the plug from the rear of the headlight, then lightly pry the plastic while removing the headlight, no plastic damage will result if care is exercised.. replacement is the reverse of removal. (and DO NOT DROP THE HEADLIGHT!!) Also headlight removal is the only way to replace the corner lights, so if you want to put some aftermarket bulbs in there, now is the time to do it... on the 05-present models use 1157 Silverstar bulbs (29.99 at advance auto parts), they look awesome on any color paint. Also do *not* use super bright h7 and high intensity eBay bulbs, the sheer amount of heat will melt the headlight.A headlight costs 300 bucks. The best bulbs to use are Silverstar(34.99x2) and silverstar Ultra(49.99x2), or buy the High intensity discharge kit from Shark racing.com (MORE)

Can you change brake pads with worn rotors?
Worn Rotors .
If your rotors are worn you should replace those as well. Worn, warped, or glazed rotors will reduce the effectiveness of your brake pads and possible wear them down faster. As far as the possibility of doing so, sure but it's not recommended..
Just to add a comment, depending on t…he rotor thickness, the rotor surface should be machined to remove the glaze or warpage before installing new pads. Machining of a rotor surface reduces the thickness. If a rotor surface has previously been machined the rotor may need to be replaced. (MORE)
Do brake rotors have to be changed in pairs?
Answer .
No they do not! For example Front Rotors; if one rotor surface when turned on a lathe will exceed limits of safety (i.e. cutting away more metal from the rotor than is safe as regulated By D.O.T. (Department of Transportation ) then you need to replace the rotor. If the other turns out t…o only need a small amount of surface removed to make it usable then that can be done. Same thing applies to the rear disc brake rotors. Of course if both rotors are beyond safe resurfacing, then both should be replaced..
HOWEVER it is possible that having calipers of a different thickness may cause them to perform differently causing a potential safety issue due to the fact that they will not have the same heat dissipation characteristics. I have not experienced this myself but this does seem to be the basis behind the recommendation of replacing them in pairs. IF I were to worry about then, I would probably only be concerned on wheels involved in steering. (MORE)

How do you change clutch in 2003 Hyundai tiburon v6?
Answer .
Clutch replacement on the Tib is not an easy feat. Even if you have mechanic skills, to do the job correctly requires a lift, & extensive tools. .
You need to lift the vehicle using a lift, and observing all safety proceedures associated with this type of equipment. The drive shaft/CV… joint must be removed..
The transmission must be unbolted & seperated. Using a trans jack to support the trans, it must be rotated to give access to the pressure plate, clutch disk, throw out bearing & fly wheel..
The disk/plate assembly must be removed, then the fly wheel. The fly wheel should by resurfaced at a machine shop..
The fly wheel is then bolted back in place, the clutch & disk installed using a clutch alignment tool, then pressure plate bolts must be torqued to specs..
slide the throw out bearing onto the shaft & reassemble..
If you're not up to this, you'll need to take it to a shop. Be prepared to pay 600.00-1,000.00 dollars US for this. It's a pain, I've done it twice (high performance clutch & fly wheel kits in my performance Tib). (MORE)

How do you change the tail light on a Hyundai Tiburon?
First try to go into your owners manual, go under "fix it yourself", Chapter 6 I believe. Once you get there, there are instructions to help you do this. If you dont have the owners manual follow the below listed steps. .
1. First, (unless you have a subwoofer, in that situation remove this first) …remove all the carpeting in the trunk. This is done by simply lifting the pieces up. Then remove the carpet cover of the taillight you wish to replace. You will know that its the carpet cover because it has three panel "screws" that can be removed fairily easily. .
2. Once this has been removed, there are three 8mm nuts (gold color) on screw studs that need to be removed. In addition, locate one stud post covered by a small black rubber boot. .
3. Once these are unscrewed simply tap/push the screw studs, including the one in the rubber boot, from the inside and your light assembly will pop off the back. .
4. Once the taillight is out find the bulb you want to replace, twist it counterclockwise and then remove the bulb. Then simply take out the defective bulb and replace it with a working one! (MORE)
How do you change brake pads and rotors?
Warning! Brake jobs are not something to be done without a manual and sufficient technical knowledge. Your life and the lives of others (as well as the life of your automobile) depend on your doing a top notch job. Please purchase a printed (paper) or a repair manual on CD so you can insure tha…t you do the job correctly. Repair manuals can often be purchased new or used at book stores or on line. You can often get copies of just the pages of a manual you need at a local library for a small fee for every page copied. Call and ask. Different vehicles have different procedures for changing pads and rotors, though they are often similar. Basically, the wheels are pulled after jacking the vehicle up and supporting it safely on stands of some kind. The brake calipers are then loosened and swung out of the way of the rotor, or removed alltogether, depending on the vehicle. With the calipers "open" after disassembly, the old pads are removed and the pistons in the calipers are compressed (pushed back in) to allow for the installation of the new pads. The rotors are removed and then either turned or replaced, with an auto machine shop or the like doing the turning of the rotors. If your rotors are too worn and thin to be turned, they'll tell you. Put the brake assemblies back they way they belong and you're pretty much done. Some folks like to bleed the brakes after doing a brake job. It may or may not be "necessary" to do this, but some experience is needed to make the determination. The description of the process here is abbreviated. It cannot be specific, and it is not designed in any way to allow you to attempt something you are not comfortable with. If you have to ask the question, it may very well be that you lack the requisite skills and knowledge to attempt this yourself. Remember that your life and the lives of others may (will!) depend on your getting your brakes fixed correctly, whether you do it yourself or have professionals do the job. You've been warned. Please be smart about this and make the best decision. Ans 2 - The first responder has many good points - and he's right in not being too specific, as you didn't tell us make, model or year. -All cars are NOT the same ! - If you want correct technical answers, then please give us ALL the facts ! How do you change the rear brake pads on a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon 2.7?
After you remove the rear caliper and old pads you will see the caliper piston has 4 slots that require a special tool to twist the piston down, you can usually get one to use from your local auto zone or parts store (I was able to use a pair of needle nose pliers as I'm sure you can), twist the pis…ton clock wise applying a little pressure as you twist, make sure the rubber dust boot is not twisting as well, if it is twisting it is just stuck to the piston and may need a small bit of lube applied between the boot and piston but do your best to keep all dirt/dust out. Now after doing this and have enough room to put the new pads on you will notice that on the back of the pad that rests on the piston there is a small "keeper pin" (for lack of a better word) that will need to be lined up with one of the slots or notches on the piston so that the pad will rest flat against the piston, put on the new pads, reinstall the caliper and slowly pump your brake pedal until you feel the pressure build back up and there you have it. Note, removing the e-brake cable or opening the bleeder valve will do no good and what ever you do don't try to compress the piston you will either damage it or just get extremely frustrated. I just finished replacing front and rear on my daughters 2003, a two hour job start to finish I assumed..... 6 hours and few fits of frustration later I figured it out so I hope this helps at least one backyard mechanic have a better day. How long to change the serpentine belt change for a Hyundai tiburon?
About 10 to 15 minutes just find the tensioner pulley on the side and torque down on it and release the belt but make sure you make a diagram for yourself so you know how it raps back around the right way.
How do you change serpentine belt on Hyundai tiburon?
Hyundai's as well as many other import vehicles don't actually have a "serpentine belt"..they have 3 smaller belts that run your a/c compressor (if you have a/c), your alternator and your power steering pump. Your alternator belt is your first so if you have to get to your a/c compressor belt it wil…l require removing your alt. belt and p/s belt to get to it. This job is a little more trickier than a serpentine belt so if you aren't really mechanically I wouldn't mess with it. (MORE)
How do you replace rear rotors and pads on 2001 Hyundai tiburon?
There will be allot of info on removing the rear calipers (Find the mounting bolts, remove, then remove the calipers, remove the old pads, put in new pads, replace in reverse order) - BUT I have done my 2003 a few times, and there is one important thing to watch for - they built these with a "wonky"… "threaded" piston in the caliper that pinches the pads. If you screw around with these, be careful, as they are the means to adjust the caliper piston back for the added meat of the new pads. They only adjust the one way (closed) when you mess with them unknowingly. be sure to have them turned in and open (The big flat "cross hairs" on the piston plunger is for this adjustment) - The car is engineered well, save this one part (emergency cable setup is poor too - seizes up) my 2 cents. How often should you change your brake rotors?
This depends on the vehicle. However, if you notice your steering wheel shakes when you apply your brakes, your rotors may be out of round. They can be resurfaced by a mechanic, usually only once because they will become too thin. If you have any concerns, ask your favorite mechanic.
How to change 2007 Hyundai Tiburon Brakes?
Remove the wheels. Remove the Caliper off the Rotor by removing the two (top and bottom) bolts that hold it on. (14mm i think) Remove the old pads. Compress the piston all the way back into the caliper to provide space for the new pads. (Checker/O'Reilly Auto sells a cube like tool that fits onto a …1/2" ratchet to compress the piston, or borrow the compression tool from Auto Zone.) Put the tabs and new pads in. Replace the caliper mounting bolts and attach the caliper back onto the rotor. After you're done make sure you press the brake padel in all the way and Slowly let it out. You're making sure the caliper piston is correctly seated against the pads and they'll self adjust. (MORE)
When should you change timing belt on Hyundai tiburon 04?
First off, its a chain, NOT a belt, and you DONT change it unless it breaks. You can SET the timing, but you dont have to change the chain. You need a timing light to re-set it if its off. Its like a strobe light.
Do you cut rotors when changing brake pads?
Certainly not. 2nd answer: If metal-to-metal grinding has been heard prior to the brake shoe change, slap your calipers on those rotors before deciding to have them turned.
When do you change timing belt on a 2008 Hyundai tiburon?
In order to preserve your 100,000 mile warranty on the power train with Hyundai, the timing belt on a Tiburon is supposed to be replaced at 60000 mile intervals. Nobody can predict the actual life of a timing belt since many last over 100000 miles. It seems to be a combination of how you drive… the car, and age that can cause dry rot. So if you don't run your car a lot, it still does not mean that your timing belt will not break... Most people seem to get to the 70000 mile mark before they even think about it or somebody else mentions it to them.. So there is quite a bit of conservative headroom with the life of a belt if you drive responsibly. This meaning, the easier you drive, the longer everything in an engine will last. (MORE)
