Remove the inside door panel of your 1988 Lincoln Town Car. Remove the wiring harness from your window motor. Remove the window motor retaining screws. Reverse the process to install a new window motor.
break it
Only if you change out the entire regulator. The power regulator unit is pitched a little different due to the power motor components.

Pull the window crank. It just snaps on and off. Remove two philipps head screws from the arm rest. Tilt the arm rest up about 90 degrees or so and the top part of it will pull out from the door. Remove three phlilps head screws from the door latch handle/ door lock plate. Slide it forward. Do not remove the rods to the ltch handle or door lock(you can get it off with out removing them. Pull the door panel out starting with the bottom. I has 12 or so push in plastic locks. BE VERY CAREFUL not to rip them out of the door panel. Now its time to just gently twist the latch/lock plate throught the panel and remove it.
Any parts store will have the removal tool for this. Very inexpensive.
Never done a VW Fox but sure this will apply. Remove the inside door panel. Arm rest if any, the window crank, the panel should pop off, but check the lower corners for screws. Once the panel is off, there may be a sheet of plastic on the door, this can be pulled off, if it tears, no big deal, just a dust shield. There should be either a slot, or two holes that will allow you to access the bolts holding the window in. Raise and lower the window till you can see them. Probably when the window is about half way up. If you look at the new window you will see where these bolts are located. They may be directly in the glass, or there may be a metal bar attached to the bottom of the window. You will probably need to remove the back guide that the window slides in to get the new one in. Should be one bolt top and bottom holding the track in. Once the window is secured to the crank assembly, replace the back track and replace door panel, etc. While you are in there, spray the track where the arm that raises the window rides and the crank assembly.
Look on the inside of the talegate for a panel that is screwed on. Remove the screws and you should be able to get inside.
1988 cougar will not crank over
Probably a crank sensor
