Locate the starter at the rear of the engine on the passenger's side. Unplug the wiring. Remove the bolts that hold the starter. Remove the starter.
disconnect neg batt cable, remove wires from starter, remove 2 mounting bolts top and bottom located where engine meets transmission on passenger side of motor. lift out starter... install in reverse order

Take the steering column housing off (usually held by 4 screws from the bottom) and remove the starter cap from the back of the ignition cylinder. In a Nissan, the ignition cylinder usually has a T shaped pin which turns the starter. if you can start your vehicle by turning the starter cap with a screw driver, you probably don't have an issue with the starter.

To reset the check engine light first lift and prop up the hood of the 2002 Nissan Sentra. Then proceed to remove the negative battery cable for five seconds.
If it is anything like my 1991 Nissan Sentra (and it probably is), the solenoid is actually attached to the top of the starter. The starter is located underneath the car, attached just below the engine block but on top the transaxle (where the transmission connects with the axle) it is very difficult to get to, on mine I had to remove the air-intake manifold and a few mounting brackets below the car.
it is under the engin...it should be connected to a cylinder chaped part it is about a foot long and 4 inches wide it should be heavy....take that off and you should see the starter on it bolt that off and if you touch the wiers to the batterie it will show you if it works or not
