Depends on whats wrong, first Bench test it and see how it behaves to help you get an idea of what its not doing, no output/over charging/poor output/ bad bearings etc. then Dissasemble and test each part to locate the trouble, install new parts, bench test to be sure it works then reinstall on vehical AFTER charging and testing the battery

I'n most cases replacement is your only option but if you can find an alternator repair shop the Rectifier (diode) assembly can be replaced, if it has damaged the stator (copper windings) is not likely practical to repair..

The alternator has nothing to do with stalling. When did you last replace the fuel filter? If the engine light is on then have a repair shop scan it and repair it. It is cheaper than guessing.

Hi the tacho runs off the alternator & when it stops working it is normally a sign of a fault with the alternator so firstly i would check that the alternator is working corectly
