Read you owner's manual. If it is not stated that this can be done, then it is not possible. I have 2 Lumina vans that have the safety lock when you put it in gear. I hate being locked in so behind each inside door panel there is a plug that plugs onto a little brass tab. Unplug them. Also if you prefer NOT to take panels off then just leave your driver door open when you put it in gear. then shut it. that is the main controll mechanism.
Biometric fingerprint security door locks are the wave of the future. They will soon be used in many businesses and rental properties. They can be a reliable source of entry if you forget your keys.
More than likely the gears are stripping on the door lock actuator and will soon fail to work.
The engine could be locking due to piston pressure. If the spark plugs are removed and the engine still locks, then something internal has broken and the engine needs to be inspected to see what snapped.
i don't have pwer to heater fan wiper, power windows, or power locks, some time when you just turn ignition everything is working soon as you start the engine it will quit
My 1995 Ford Explorer has also done that occasionally ( although I have removed the ignition key as soon as I open the drivers door , the key in ignition chime starts " going " ) What I do is put the ignition key back in and then remove it again and the chime will stop Give that a try
you have an engine/ignition problem. HAve a garage read the codes and diagnose the problem soon.
tumbler has slipped. hit key with mallet . but ignition keylock will soon have to be replaced
I would guess the lock switch is defective. Unplug the wire going to the switch and if the problem goes away the switch is bad. It can also be a defective remote control door lock control if you have one.
As soon as the kid next door buys it, I shall steal it, and then it shall be mine
I had trouble with my manual locks and then I noticed that where you put your key in on the passenger side was not straight up and down, but turned to one side. As soon as I inserted the key and put it straight up and down the locks started working fine.
I do not see how it could protect you anymore that it coud hurt you. Infact I would say having your door unlocked would be better. This way if you are physically unable to open the door yourself then people on the outside could. The idea of locking vehicle doors, is to protect you from other people, not collisions. Some cars lock the doors for you, as soon as you move and only unlock the drivers door when you use a short press on the remote control keyfob. There have been a spate of crimes where 'scumbags', leap into the passenger side of single females shopping, or stationary at a traffic junction.
