There is a relay for the A/C, as well as a fuse in the fuse panel. Start by checking these to to see if they have power and the fuse is good. There is a single green wire that connects the compressor to the wiring harness, plus there should be a body ground bolted somewhere on the A/C frame. all these need to be connected and in good condition. Depending on the year you may also have wiring connections at the dryer that senses the pressure, if it is too low, it will keep compressor from running to protect it. Additionally, the switch in the dash has two wires (usually) connected to it. FOr wiring diagrams the best bet are the green covered Volvo service manuals. They are still available new from volvo, or used at auction sites online.
