Provided you have a sewerage pump, yes this can be done, however, if not, you may need to feed it straight into the sewer line but also depending how deep your exisiting line will be will also depend on this answer.

∙ 10y agoThis must be done before floor is in, or in wood construction, from an unfinished basement ceiling. Shower drain must go through a 'P' trap. then run the pipe to the toilet drain and fit in where an appropriate Tee will fit (4x 1.5 x 4 tee usually.)

When installing a shower can the drain be placed in front of the toilet without concern?
I can be but the toilet needs to have 24" in front of it to be legal. Plus you cannot tie your shower drain in the the horizontal branch of the toilet.

This can be a complicated job as the toilet drain ranges from 3" -4" and a variety of materials from Plastic to cast iron to galvanized. Then there is the venting to consider and NO a shower drain CANNOT be used for a toilet discharge as the shower drain is normally 2" diameter

The shower drain and waste lines on up to the other fixtures located above need to be clear so that water will flow. Just downhill of the shower drain there is probably a blockage in the waste pipe. The blockage could cause slow draining. If it is completely blocked, the shower pan will not drain back out over time. You will need to run a plumbers snake down the line below the shower drain. If the toilet in the same room as the shower when flushed also shows water coming into the shower drain, it will be best to take up the toilet off the base and run a plumbers snake from that point. You can use the existing floor drain lines most likely you will have to cut the drain line or add to it to line up with the hole in the shower. tubs have drains on one end while most showers have it in the middle.
