The Republic of Texas was a soverign state in North Ameica between the United States and Mexico that existed from 1836 to 1845. Formed as a break-away republic from Mexico as a result of the Texas Revolution, the nation claimed borders that encompassed an area that included all of the present U.S. state of Texas, as well as parts of present-day New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming, based upon the Treaties of Velasco between the newly created Texas republic and Mexico. Texas became the 28th state of the United States on 29 December 1845, and is the only state of the 50 states of the United States which is allowed to fly its state flag on the same level as the flag of the United States. All other 49 states must fly their state flags at a lower level than the U. S. flag, although one frequently sees this rule of flag etiquette broken because so many people in this country are ignorant of the rules governing the display of flags. Yes Texas is a state, but at one time it was a country (The Republic of Texas). That is the reason the Texas flag is flown at the same level as the US Flag.

Yes at least it currently is. It depends on what the total of the tallied votes when we vote. Like, this year, in the Obama/McCain election the majority of the Texas voters were Obama supporters but McCain won the state. Both US Senators from Texas are Republicans and 20 of the 32 Member of the House of Representatives and the state Government is firmly in Republican control But it all depends on the induvidual. Whether they are democats or republican it all depends on who wins the election, then the whole country will be either party, Democrats, or Republicans.

No. Texas was once a nation and then it was The Republic of Texas. But, after the United States joined Texas, it became simply another state.

Not any more, but it was a country before joining the United States in 1836. It is the only state that can sucead from the United States and become its own country again.
