In 1505, Portuguese explorers discovered the island of Mauritius and the 50 lb flightless Dodos which supplemented their food stores. Imported pigs, monkeys and rats fed on the Dodo Bird's eggs in their ground nests. The last Dodo was killed in 1681.
Before similar looking birds were discovered in the southern hemisphere, the Great Auk or Garefowl was also known as a Penguin. The Great Auk inhabited the coasts and islands of the North Atlantic from Virginia and Ireland to Greenland and Iceland almost to the Arctic Circle. The flightless bird was easily captured. They and their eggs fed many sailors. Shorebirds that breed in a limited number of colonies at only certain locations are highly susceptible to concentrated stresses and the Great Auk was extinct by mid Nineteenth Century.
The Giant Moa from New Zealand was the greatest bird in size. Up to 12 feet in heigth and 550 pounds was the biggest bird in the last 1000 years.
The Passenger Pigeon. It was once the most common bird in America and had lived in enormous flocks. During the 19th century, the species went from being one of the most abundant birds in the world to extinction. They had been such a threat to farmers that the Roman Catholic bishop of Quebec formally excommunicated the species. "Martha", thought to be the world's last passenger pigeon, died on September 1, 1914 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

There is a long list of animals that have become extinct over the last 100 years. The list includes: Barbary lion, western black rhino, Carolina parakeet, desert rat kangaroo and Bali tiger.
a dinosaur and a arkno have been extinct for over 900,000 years
a panda bear
the dodo bird
17 animals have been etinct in the past 200 years
There is no such animal now or in the past called a shipe. So, it doesn't exist, but not extinct.
Yes they are. There is no documented evidence of a living stegosaurus for the past few million years. Thus they have been classified as "extinct".
Horse, cattle, dogs, cats, coyote, birds, racoons, fox
the cheetah is the fastest animal in the world
Yes, it lives in the past. Carcharodon megalodon has been extinct for at least 1.5 million years.
Extinct means there were none left, so if zebras exist today, then they could not have been extinct at any time in the past.
The volcanoes which used to be active in the past and have not shown any signs of blowing up in many years are extinct volcanoes.
The Caspian, Bali, and Javan tigers are extinct.
== == Given that the definition of an "extinct" animal would be a species of which no living specimens have been sighted in years, then there are no extinct animals in the world. However, if you wish to know how many species have become extinct, I suggest you look at the Wikipedia post linked below. There you will find a list that, excluding the dinosaurs, includes thousands of extinct animals, birds, fish, reptiles, etc. Consider that well over 90% of all the life forms that ever existed on earth are extinct, a complete list would be huge.
The musk turtles have been wiped out a lot over the past few years from being run over from cars and not having enough habitat for them. The musk turtle is still alive and active and if it ever does go extinct it will be 20 or 30 years from now.
Many animals have gone extinct since 1514. Examples include: Eskimo Curlew, Ivory-billed Woodpecker, Martinique Curly-tailed Lizard, Golden Toad and Ainsworth's Salamander.
