∙ 11y agoGothic posers misconstrue the bands music as being Gothic Rock because Amy Lee herself is a Victorian Goth. Amy Lee may be a Victorian Goth but a person's sub-culture does not determine their musical styling. Saying that a band is Gothic because the lead singer is Gothic is like saying a group is Rap because the member is black. It does not work that way. Anyway, Evanescence's styling in general is not Gothic, but instead is actually Hard Rock and Alternative. Also, unless if the definition changed just recently, there is no way she is in the Nu-Metal genre either. First of all, she is not Metal in any way what-so-ever and second, people need to learn what Nu-Metal really is. Nu-Metal is actually a currently dying-out (thank god because it sucks) FUSION genre of music that consists of not only the Rock element, but also consists of Rap/Hip-Hop elements and the last time I checked, Evanescence did not have Rap elements in them. Amy Lee does not rap her lyrics nor did any of her members. And the last time I checked, they did not have instruments commonly used int the Hip-Hop genre so that argument is dead wrong. Listen to Evanescence's music first then compare it to actual Nu-Metal groups like Lincoln Park, Slipknot, Limp Biscuit, Hollywood Undead, Korn, Disturbed, etc. and then you will see the difference. Learn your genres first and do your research before you put labels on a group.

As well as the punk splinter groups (the Oi! and Anarcho movements), there was the Ska revival, the Mod revival, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, the fledgling Industrial sound, the so-called "Futurist" movement, New Romantic, Psychobilly and a bewildering array of "post-punk" bands. Out of this peculiar mixture, the early goth bands gradually emerged. Of course, at first they weren't termed "goth" bands, though some of them were referred to as "gothic" in musical style as early as 1979.
