The Goths in ancient history were a group of tribes including the Ostrogoths, Visigoths, Lombards, and Vandals. They were of Germanic origin and for the most part probably practiced variations of the Pagan religions of Northern Europe. These religions were most likely similar to that of the Vikings, but most records of it were obliterated when these people converted to Christianity, except for a few documents written by Romans, but they were in all probability filled with Propaganda and misconceptions. Gaining an accurate picture of their religious beliefs would be almost impossible now.

See "Asatru" as this is most likely as close as you can get to understanding the religious traditions of the Goths.

(Note that "Gothic" is also a term for a style of European ecclesiastic architecture. It succeeded Norman architecture, typified by semicircular arches, and adopted the more efficient pointed arches. In Victorian England, the fashion for Gothic architecture was revived, abandoning the sublime elegance of Georgian architecture.

It follows that in this context "Gothic" refers to Christianity).

This truly depends on the individual. Many embrace "gothic" as a way of expressing themselves, and a typical gothic stereotype/ cliche states that goths wear dark colours and assume that this means that goths "value" evil and the darkness!! I am gothic myself, and personally I don't value darkness as such, but I value its position and importance in life. Many people from other subcultures don't like to be acknowledge deep or dark subjects eg.death (a lot of people try to change the subject when talking about death) some seem disgusted or ashamed of them, but no matter who you are they are always going to be a part of your life (try naming a person who isn't going to die!)! Being gothic allows people to be more accepting of the darker walks of life and sometimes even makes light of them!! I assume that this is sort of what the question is refering to as apart from similar ideas that I have mentioned above about embracing the darker side of life, "goths" are human beings and each individual will value different things. To say that all gothic people have the same certain values is like saying that old people knit wooly jumpers! I hope I helped! If not, one is extremely sorry!!

It is very hard to answer that, but i think they can believe in God or the Devil. I personally am Gothic so i believe in god and i will never change my mind!!!!! So choose God!!!!!!! my best friend belives in the devil but that is because she doesn't know how horrible it is down there and i do. don't ask why just search in Google- screams in hell

Or, to go with a more sensible answer, anything. Goths are people, too, and the gothic movement is one based more on personal outlook, philosophy and attitude than appearance or religion. So, while most goths are Christian, they can also be Satanists, Buddhist, Jewish, pagan, etc.

1.

One contributor states this about Gothic people:

You have to be Gothic in order to know what they actually do...

2.

We do not wear black all the time. We prefer black.

3.

We prefer to be individual and do our own stuff and be more free.

We don't hate our parents.

Some goths have had bad experiences during their childhood but what makes this different from some other children with parents following other ways.

Poetry is a big part of Gothic lifestyle :-)

Goths actually tend to be optimistic, and non-violent, tolerant and friendly and we are fun to be around with. They have normal friends like you too!

4.

Goths actually try to learn new things. We actually make it through high-school. Most of Goths are usually open-minded so we are not dumb. Goths know what this world is all about even if they do not have the answer to every possible question, but then again, Who does!

5.

Gothic people have a different mind of thinking. Goths are different from Emo's & Punks .

6.

Gothic is beauty of deity. The goddess of all nature.

Don't confuse what isn't Gothic to what really is Gothic.

7.

Goths and Emo's are people. They don a costume, usually for effect or because they feel that it gives them a personality when they feel theirs is lacking. Some people don't like them or don't trust them because they attribute characteristics to them based on their appearance. They forget that they are just people.

i think being dark and depressed is what makes real gothic people gothic. Some people are just obsessed with vampires, they're not gothic, they're just vampire-gothic wannabees. You'll also see a couple of people who think gothc is a fashion sense, and they will just dress black just because they think it's 'hot', those are definitely wannabees. Gothic is somebody who's obsessed with darkness (sort of like me, if you will :] ) or just depressed all the time. Goth is not a fashion sense, people.
