Destroying real Islam.

Answer 2

Any list of the five greatest achievements will necessarily be different depending on the Answerer. As for me...

1) Gathering of Knowledge: The Abbassids spent an incredible amount of wealth to aggregate sources of wisdom from all over the known world, especially Ancient Greek and Roman texts, but also some East Asian texts as well. They had these texts all translated into Arabic in one of the largest translation enterprises in the Medieval World. The Abbassids also built a massive university in Baghdad to house these texts and provide instruction in these materials to the next generation.

2) Patronage of the Maths and Sciences: The Abbassids also monetarily supported those who relied on those Ancient Texts to make new scientific and mathematical breakthroughs. It was under the Abbassids that trigonometry and algebra became defined mathematical disciplines. Astronomy, chemistry, medicine, and several other scientific fields were also advanced.

3) Economic Supremacy and Trade: The Abbassid Caliphate was one of the strongest trading states in the Medieval Period, often helping to bridge the physical distance between East Asia and Europe. Abbassid coins and products have been found in both China and Sweden as well as numerous countries in between.

4) Expansion of Islamic Territory: The Abbassids expanded Islamic presence in Asia with the conversion of many Turkic and Mongolian Tribes to Islam. The Abbassids also helped support the costs of Imams who were going to distant places to bring the word of Islam. While the empire did not expand as dramatically as the Caliphate had under the Rashidun and Umayyad Caliphates, there was still expansion.

5) Religious Tolerance for Minorities: The Abbassids allowed non-Muslims to live in the Caliphate as second-class citizens, which was much better than the contemporary option outside of the Abbassid Caliphate (constant fear of death). Mawali (Non-Arab Muslims) were fully integrated into Abbassid society and there was no Arab-Mawali discrimination as there had been under the Umayyads.
