1. The Maghreb - This is a desert area that runs along the north of Africa

2. The Northern Tier - This is a mountainous plateau area that runs along Turkey through northern Iraq into Iran.

3. The Fertile Crescent - This area has fertile soil for growing crops and is generally a plain

4. The Nile Valley - This area also has fertile soil for growing crops and is mostly a plain or semi-arid desert

5. The Arabian Peninsula - This area is mostly made up of large stretches of desert and makes up the modern countries of Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Oman to name a few.
