The main characters, the plot and the theme are similar in the book and the movie versions of "The Wizard of Oz."
Specifically, the main characters are Dorothy, her pet dog Toto and their three friends the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman. Such other important characters as Uncle Henry and Aunt Em, the Wizard and the witches are found in both the original 1900 book edition and the beloved 1939 movie version. Additionally, the plot deals in both cases with the adventures of Dorothy as she works her way through Oz and back to Kansas. Throughout the adventures, the same themes surface: family and friends, home, self-realization and self-sufficiency.

∙ 12y agoThe Wiz. It had an all-black cast and took place ( Earth sequences) in Manhattan, and not Kansas. There is a Manhattan in Kansas, by the way, site of massive grain-elevators.
