Some national governments including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the Burmese population fail to recognize this name change as they do not recognize the military government that brought about this event.

But it was originally a British colony, and at that time, it was given the name "Burma." Some people today, including certain journalists, still call it Burma.
