There are several scenarios...

1. If you purchased the motorcycle from a dealer in the state of Texas's they are going to handle the paperwork for you, its the law.

2. If you purchased the motorcycle from an out of state dealership and there will be a lien placed on the motorcycle, the dealer will more than likely mail your paperwork to your local tax office. Leaving you to get the motorcycle inspected and then having you go to the tax office with your out of state id certificate which is obtained from a Texas emissions center, your proof of current motorcycle insurance, and of course some money.

3. If you purchased the motorcycle from an out of state dealership and there is no lien being placed they will more than likely just give you the title. Leaving you to get the motorcycle inspected and then having you go to the tax office with your out of state id certificate which is obtained from a Texas emissions center, your proof of current motorcycle insurance, and of course some money.

4. If you bought the motorcycle from an individual in the state of Texas you will first need to make sure that the name of the person on the front of the title is the person you are purchasing the bike from. If there are several names and errors on the back of the title you will have some major issues. There are many instances where a person has purchased a vehicle and then when they see the fees they then turn around and try to resell the vehicle without first putting it into their name. This does not work due to the fact that you have to be a licensed dealer to resell a vehicle. But anyway...if purchased from the individual on the front of the title you will need the back of the title filled out by you and the seller, the form 130u which is available on the TX dot web site which is www.txdot.gov go to drivers and vehicles and click on the topic title your vehicle, you will be able to get the form in PDF or word or print it out and fill it in by hand.(Please note you can not have any scratch outs on the form below box 15), a power of attorney which is also on the TX dot website filled out by the seller will be handy in case there are some errors on the paperwork. You will need proof of current motorcycle insurance as well. Oh, yeah you will need money as well.

To remember:

Check the name of the person on the front of the title to the ID of the person who is selling it to you

Get the form 130-u and the power of attorney form and the title filled out before leaving that person

Get into the tax office in your county within 20 of that county's working days or you will be PENALIZED

Do not use white out or alter anything that is on the title you may have to make several trips to the tax office if you do

Do remember that simply providing insurance on the vehicle is enough you have to have the correct type of insurance ex motorcycle you must have motorcycle insurance

Whoever's name the vehicle is going into must be on the insurance as a covered driver or the policy holder

You will be charged 6.25% of the total price of the vehicle, plus a title fee of 28 or 33 dollars depending on the county plus registration. Registration for a motorcycle will be 43.80 in Fort Bend or Harris County.

Call your local tax office and ask them what forms of payment they take and if there are fees to use a credit or debit card. You may be able to find this online and save the clerk who answers the phone some annoyance.

How do you sell a motorcycle that you purchased on your credit card?

It depends on who holds the certificate of title on the motorcycle. If you hold the title, and it is in your name, and there are no lien holders listed on the title. then you could sell the motorcycle at any time you would like. On the other hand if the credit card company holds the title then you would have to pay off the balance owed on the motorcycle to the credit card company, they would then release the title to you, at which time you could sell the motorcycle.

Can you add a person to your car title if car was recently purchased and the person you want to add is one of your parents?

You can only have one owner name on a car title. If you have decided that you want it in one of your parent's name, you can sign the title over to them and list the dollar amount as $0 so you won't have to pay sales tax again, only title transfer fees. Unless of course they are buying from you.

A CD title I believe is not actually a title. CD in reference to a motorcycle usually means a Certificate of Destruction.
