This depends entirely upon the type of gum tree.

• An ironbark has dark coloured bark, reddish-brown to almost black, which is rough and deeply furrowed.
• Ghost gums have pale grey, almost white, bark which is very smooth and shiny.
• The scribbly gum has smooth bark which is distinctively inscribed with "scribbles" or zig-zagging tracks. These scribbles are actually evidence of tunnels made by the larvae of the Scribbly Gum moth. The outer layers of bark are grey and fairly smooth, and as the sheets of old bark fall away, the paler, smoother bark layer underneath is ex[psed, along with its scribbly tracks.
• The stringybark variety of gum trees have bark which is thick and fibrous, from which strings or strands of bark can be pulled. The colour of the bark tends to vary from grey to brown to patches of black.
• Blue gum trees are one of many species which have smooth, pale bark which is mottled throughout with a grey-blue colour.

I am trying to figure out what a gum leaf looks like? We have a leaf bud that my son caught and we want to feed it. I think they eat gum leafs?
