During the Classical Mayan period, many Maya lived in city states, similarly to the ancient Greeks. Now many Maya live in villages and towns, or on farms, and some have migrated to big cities in Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras, and other countries around the world, particularly Canada and the United States. There are currently about 7 million Mayan people, speaking more than 20 Mayan languages, with many people speaking Spanish, English, etc.

The idea that somehow the Mayan calendar foretells the end of the world is laughable, considering that the Mayans apparently couldn't foresee the end of the Mayans 500 years ago.
